2009
International Accounting
Program in Hong Kong
Orientation and Support
Participants are required to attend pre-departure orientation workshops held on
the UT-Austin campus in the spring, and an on-site orientation in Hong Kong. A
UT-Austin program liaison, who is familiar with Hong Kong and China, will be in Hong Kong with the students for the duration of the
program. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in activities
that are designed to acquaint them with the surroundings, the public
transportation systems, and some of the major cultural sites in Hong Kong.
Activities
Shortly after their arrival, students will participate in a required on-site
orientation to acquaint them with Hong Kong, the student residence, and the CUHK
campus. During the first week of classes, participants are treated to a welcome event hosted by CUHK/McCombs
School of Business. Throughout the program, the UT-Austin program liaison arranges
group activities/cultural visits for participants. Some activities are covered
by your CIBER program fee, and others may require a small fee.
In 2007,
the group participated in the following activities: welcome dinner at Jade
Garden followed by an evening of watching the
symphony of lights at
Victoria Harbour, trip to
Victoria Peak, boat trip to
Macau with a walking
tour, group trip to
Lantau Island to visit the Buddha and surrounding
monastery, and farewell dinner at Hopewell Center on Hong Kong Island.
Most activities take place during the week. Other suggested
activities include a visit to the
Stanley Market, take a ride on the
Star Ferry, or enjoy dinner at
Jumbo (a floating restaurant).
