2010 International Supply Chain in Hong Kong

Location:
Hong Kong (S.A.R.)

Language of Instruction:  English

*Enrollment will take place on a first come first serve basis

This intensive five-week study abroad program is designed specifically for students at the McCombs School of Business.  The program is offered through the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) in conjunction with the Faculty of Business Administration at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Students take two courses (6 credit hours):

· Operational Management: Taught by McCombs Professor Mike Hasler

· Doing Business with Chinese Suppliers: Taught by CUHK faculty

The program offers students a unique experience as they travel along the supply chain. The program will begin with two days of required company visits in Texas. Students will visit  a retail store visit in Austin, TX on May 19. On May 20, students will travel to Midlothian, TX to visit a distribution center. On June 6, students will meet in LA to visit the Port of Long Beach. The evening of June 7, students will fly to Hong Kong and begin the Hong Kong portion of the program. A trip to visit Chinese suppliers in mainland China will take place during the program. The courses are taught in English and are generally held Monday through Thursday on the campus of CUHK. Please note that dates are tentative and will be confirmed during the late fall semester of 2009. Students are responsible for their own airfare.

The courses will count as OM 335 or OM 335H and tentatively IB 372 or OM 340S.  Students should consult with their Academic Advisor to determine how the credit applies toward their degree. Courses must be taken for a letter grade and all grades compute into the UT-Austin GPA.

The CUHK campus, located on a spacious 134-hectare campus with more than 130 state-of-the art buildings, was founded in 1963.  The Faculty of Business Administration at CUHK has been a pioneer in business education for over four decades.

Participants reside at a CUHK student residence hall on the CUHK campus.  All students will be assigned single, double, or triple rooms with other program participants.  The bedrooms are apartment-style, with 6-8 rooms sharing a kitchen, living area, and several bathrooms.  Air conditioning is free in the bedrooms, and can be purchased in the common rooms by meter card.
Please note that program dates are tentative.

Open to UT-Austin students who are in good academic standing and who have completed BA 324 and STA 309.

All pre-requisites must be completed by the summer of participation.
