Information Management/Operations Challenge
Sponsors: Technology McCombs & Graduate Operations Group
This case competition requires teams of first-year MBA students from the McCombs School of Business to analyze a business issue and present a strategic solution to a panel of corporate and faculty judges. The case will combine knowledge of Information Management and Operations as tools to achieve operational excellence in business organizations.

Interactive Workshop with Dr. Bob Johansen and Olivia Fox Cabane

Presented by SCMC and the Center for Customer Insight and Marketing Solutions (CCIMS), the workshop will focus on leadership in uncertain times and feature two outstanding speakers: Dr. Bob Johansen, Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for the Future, and Olivia Fox Cabane from Spitfire Communications. Dr. Johansen’s new book, Leaders Make the Future: 10 New Leadership Skills for an Uncertain World, will be the cornerstone of his presentation. Olivia Fox Cabane will present Influence, Persuasion and Self-Promotion in a Low-Trust Environment: What you really need to know when attempting to persuade, motivate, or sell today.

Advisory Council Meeting

The SCMC Advisory Council will discuss the current state of the Center and the progress of our academic programs, as well as review the SCM curriculum and SCMC strategic plan. The meeting will also include presentations from the Graduate Operations Group (GOG) and the Supply Chain Management Student Organization (SCMSO) regarding their activity plans and goals.

Supply Chain Metrics and Risks Roundtable
During this roundtable discussion, we addressed the relationship between supply chain performance and corporate performance. The agenda included a presentation by Dr. Vinod Singhal from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a group discussion led by Ken Brink from Chevron, and an exploration of possible research topics. A more in depth review of this event can be found in the Summer 2009 edition of SCMC’s newsletter.

Thursday, February 19, 2009
Supply Chain Carnival, Noon – 2:00 pm
Presented by the Supply Chain Management Student Organization (SCMSO), this interactive event educated students on supply chain careers and promoted the supply chain major to undeclared students. SCMC sponsors were invited to send representatives with various backgrounds in supply chain management to run the carnival booths, interact directly with students, and promote the value of a supply chain career.

Industry Panel Discussion, 2:30 – 4:00 pm
This was a general discussion between SCMC sponsors and the membership of the undergraduate and graduate supply chain and operations student organizations. Topics included key supply chain issues, challenges, and career opportunities.

SCMC Recognition Dinner, 5:30 – 8:00 pm
SCMC honored its 12 Founding Sponsors: Accenture, AMD, Boeing, Chevron, Dell, Energy Alloys, Frito-Lay, HEB, Procter & Gamble, Shell, Temple-Inland and Texas Instruments. The Center also honored its six 2008-09 SCMC scholarship recipients: Felipe Herrera, Kayla Monus, Lindsey Schmidt, Arjita Shrimali, Jason Skindell and Megan Stephens.

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) Roundtable
During this roundtable discussion, we addressed the “how” and “why” of S&OP. Our keynote speakers were Dr. Larry Lapide from MIT and Ms. Sara Park from Heinz North America. In addition to these presentations, the program included a case study, a networking lunch, and a group discussion on participant experiences with S&OP. We discussed the current state of the Center, our academic programs and possible topics for future roundtables and practicum projects. Dinner was open to Advisory Council members and all registered S&OP Roundtable participants.

SCMC/CCIMS Joint Research Center Sustainability Symposium
Co-hosted by the Supply Chain Management Center of Excellence (SCMC) and the Center for Customer Insight and Marketing Solutions (CCIMS) with support from the Advanced Manufacturing Center, this symposium titled “Achieving Customer Impact by Balancing Environmental Intelligence, Supply Chain Optimization and Product Design” provided an opportunity for Supply Chain and Marketing executives to look at best practices, issues and opportunities for holistic product design.

A Joint Research Center “Sponsors Only” Session with Dr. Bob Johansen
The Supply Chain Management Center of Excellence (SCMC) and the Center for Customer Insight and Marketing Solutions (CCIMS) co-hosted Dr. Bob Johansen, Distinguished Fellow at the Institute for the Future (IFTF). The session titled “Sensing the Future to Compete in the Present” focused on IFTF’s latest Ten-Year Forecast of global future forces and the Foresight to Insight to Action approach.
