General Eickmann is a highly sought after speaker on Homeland Security and National Defense issues. He played integral parts in the rescue and recovery efforts following the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines and the explosion of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. General Eickmann served as the Director of the Construction Industry Institute (CII) at the University of Texas at Austin from June 1998 to October 2003. CII, a non-profit research institute, is the principal national forum for the multi-trillion dollar a year construction industry. The 100+ member companies of the institute are dedicated to improving the cost, schedule, quality, safety, security and operability of constructed facilities. As CII Director, he guided more than 700 individuals from the Institute’s member companies in research projects involving more than 30 of the nation’s top universities.
His recent accomplishments include selection as a Distinguished Engineering Graduate of the University of Texas; selection for membership of the National Academy of Construction: selection a Chairman of a General Officer Red Team formed to review the Transformation efforts of the U.S. Air Force; and selection to chair two National Research Council committee’s formed to provide independent evaluations of propulsion technology in this country and recommend steps required to reduce U.S. dependence of foreign sources of energy. In addition, he served as a member of a committee of the National Academy of Sciences which reviewed the science and technology requirements implied in the National Aerospace Initiative.
He completed 22 assignments in the Air Force including a stint from 1994 to 1996 as Commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma and an assignment as the Commander of the Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. In that capacity, he led the Air Force’s center of excellence for research, development and acquisition of aircraft, aeronautical equipment and munitions. His command managed an annual budget of $12 billion across more than 2800 programs ranging from basic research to design, development and support of advance aeronautical systems. As Commander, he also chaired a consortium partnering the U.S. Department of Defense, the aerospace industry, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to increase competitiveness in the aerospace industry.
General Eickmann currents serves as the state vice-chairman of the Texas Engineers’ Task Force on Homeland Security and founded an Executive Placement Firm, The Eickmann Group, dedicated to the placement of retired military leaders in industry.
General Eickmann earned his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas in 1967, an MS in systems engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1968, and is a graduate of the National Defense University in Washington D.C., the University of Michigan Executive Business Program and the John F Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. |
