Homedrive Changes

Homedrives are being phased out this fall and will be replaced with MySites for file storage purposes.  UT Webspace, USB drives, data storage on austin.utexas.edu, and DVD and CD burning are also file storage resources.

1.My Sites is a Microsoft SharePoint-based service which allows for collaboration and sharing along with many other features.  To claim your My Site, visit https://students.mccombs.utexas.edu.

2.UT WebSpace is a university-wide file storage and web publishing resource available to all students, faculty, and staff. To claim your UT WebSpace, visit https://webspace.utexas.edu.

3.Data Storage on austin.utexas.edu provides storage for critical files, file recoverability, offline synchronization and includes 1 gig of disk space for a minimal yearly charge of $13.  To sign up, visit http://www.utexas.edu/its/storage.

4.Flash Drives are sold by the McCombs Media Services Support Desk (GSB 3.132) in 1 and 2 GB denominations.  All McCombs lab computers have easily accessible USB ports on the side of each monitor.  http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/media/support.asp.

5.DVDs and CDs are also sold by the McCombs Media Services Support Desk.  All McCombs Labs computers have DVD and CD burning capabilities.

Homedrive Phase-Out Schedule
Normal functioning through Oct. 1
Read-only mode Oct. 1 - Oct. 29
Service terminated after Oct. 29

When using the labs this fall, you will notice that your roaming profile is different and that your desktop files are not there.  All roaming profiles have been reset, and will require you to reconfigure services such as Microsoft Outlook and SQL.  Any files that you saved previously to your desktop should still be located on your homedrive.  Your internet favorites should be there also.  You will need to map to your homedrive in order to use it and access these files and favorites.  You will want to save all files to an alternative file storage source before the phase-out.

To map your homedrive in the labs, right click on My Computer and click on Map a Network Drive.  Select drive h: and in the Folder field input the following:

\\busstorage2\msbnumber$
example:  \\busstorage2\msbaa123$

Check the reconnect at logon box if you would like your homedrive to reconnect each time you login.  If you need help a lab proctor or lab supervisor will be more than happy to assist you.

Printing Changes
UT ITS (Information Technology Services) has implemented a new printing system.  The McCombs Computer Labs started using this new printing system during the summer.

The system is quite easy to use and requires your UT EID credentials and a BevoBucks account.  To print a document, just click on File -> Print and select the appropriate printer.  A print job confirmation display will appear requesting your UT EID credentials.  The document will be immediately sent to the printer chosen and charged to your BevoBucks account.  The lab proctors will file the print jobs by UT EID at the lab proctor station.  For more information, visit http://www.utexas.edu/its/printing/.
