Practicums

A practicum is the opportunity for groups of 5 to 6 first-year MBA students to work in partnership with energy firms on real valuation and finance problems. These semester-long projects give the team members an opportunity to put into action the tools and skills that they learn in the classroom. The sponsoring companies benefit not only from having a project completed in a professional manner, but also from the opportunity to observe firsthand potential future employees for an extended period of time in the office environment.

Recent practicum projects include:

  • Real option valuation for international LNG exports
  • Valuation of assets (pipeline, power plant)
  • Sector analysis on the effects of off-balance sheet financing
  • Analysis of the cyclical nature of spark spreads.
