I volunteered to be a chef for an upcoming event. What do I need to know?
Thanks for volunteering! You will be provided with a budget for the menu. Guests are responsible for bringing their own alcohol. As a general guideline we ask chefs to prepare at least 2 dishes, one being a vegetarian option. For example, you could serve a salad and a main dish or a main dish with a vegetarian side dish. Of course, always feel free to exceed this! We have also put together a checklist to help you get organized. Items are in no particular order and some may not apply:
- Inform Graduate Circle officer of menu
- Receive budget for event and number of guests
- Take inventory and provide Graduate Circle officer with information of additional cooking utensils/dishes needed
- Shop for ingredients and soft drinks (remember to stay within allocated budget)
- Keep receipts for ingredients and soft drinks purchased and receive reimbursement from Graduate Circle
- Have fun preparing the meal!
- If the event is hosted at another member's house make sure you collect all cooking utensils/dishes before leaving
- Return all borrowed utensils/dishes
Remember that it should be fun, so please do not worry. At least one Graduate Circle officer will attend each event to ensure that everything goes smoothly. We are always available for questions or help.

- Communicate available facilities to Graduate Circle officer (i.e. number of chairs, dining table size, etc.) and determine needed items (i.e. additional table settings, silverware, etc.)
- Provide logistical information (directions, contact information, etc.) to Graduate Circle officer
- Ready the house for guests and have fun entertaining!
- Return all borrowed items
Remember that it should be fun, so please do not worry. At least one Graduate Circle officer will attend each event to ensure that everything goes smoothly. We are always available for questions or help.
