What could you get from the IBC2?

What do you need to be part of the IBC2?

The 2006 International Business and Communications Case Challenge is almost here and this year it brings a handful of opportunities for all of you, fellow first year MBA students!

The International Business and Communications Challenge is a case based competition that aims to recreate an international business situation where all participants will have to deal with cultural and business concerns. Teams will be judged on their proposal’s analysis, quality of presentation, creative solutions and understanding of the business/cultural situation.

The case is developed by one of the most renowned faculty in our Business School, Professor John Doggett (visit: http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/facstaff/ to learn more about Professor Doggett’s background).

What could you get from the IBC2?

The IBC2 will not only help you strengthen your team work, analysis and presentation skills; but also will give you the opportunity to show those skills to Human Resources and Business Managers from Fortune’s top 500 companies. Both the HR and Business Managers will be evaluating your presentations, but the most important part, is that they will be screening and selecting people within the competition for their Marketing and Finance summer programs. This is a great opportunity for all people focusing on these two areas to demonstrate your skills to these top recruiters and create job leads for your summer internships.

Furthermore, the best three teams will win one of the following prizes:

First place: $2,500

Second place: $1,000

Third place: $500

What do you need to be part of the IBC2?

First, you need to form a team of 4 first year MBA students (We recommend that at least one of the team members be from a different culture than the rest for better understanding the cultural differences). You don’t have to be a member of the HGBA to sign up for this event.

Second, you have to send an email to Juan Ignacio Laresgoiti before Tuesday, September 26 at 5 pm with the name of your team, and the name, country and resume of each participant. In order to provide a greater experience to all participants, the IBC2 has a quota of 20 teams. Teams will be accepted on a first come – first serve basis.

Third, attend the Presentation Skills workshop on Wednesday September 27 (optional) provided by PLUS @ GSB 3.138 3:30 – 5:00 pm

Fourth, mark in your calendar the dates for this event: September 28 and 29, 2006. The case will be handed out on the afternoon of Thursday, September 28. Teams will present beginning at 8:00 AM on Friday, September 29.

Fifth, and final, be prepared and open to find new ways of doing business in and outside the US!
