WHERE: The University of Texas at Austin campus, Geology Building (GEO) 2.218 (see www.utexas.edu/parking/maps/visitor for parking information).

BACKGROUND: India’s rise as an economic power has been going on for the past 20 years, and has recently been the center of the current political controversy over the loss of jobs from the United States to India. In this presentation, Gurcharan Das will discuss India’s future as a significant player in the global economy.

Das is the author of the best-selling book, “India Unbound,” which has recently been filmed by the BBC. He has also written a novel, “A Fine Family,” and a number of plays, one of which was produced off-Broadway, that have been recently published as an anthology. He also writes a Sunday column in the Times of India newspaper. He graduated from Harvard University and was CEO of Procter & Gamble India before becoming a full-time writer based in New Delhi.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by The University of Texas at Austin South Asia Institute, the McCombs School of Business, the Department of Radio-Film-Television, the College of Engineering, The Indus Entrepreneurs, and the Indian Community Center.
