Outlook 2000 setup

You will need to run Virtual Private Network (VPN) software when connecting or configuring your Outlook email from off-campus.

Please Note: The McCombs School of Business no longer has computers running Office 2000 and the Training Team is unable to provide assistance if you have issues configuring Outlook 2000. Instead, you can use Outlook Web Access.

  • There are 2 steps you must take. First you will need to change the installation type between Internet Mail Only and Corporate/Workgroup. To do this click on the Tools menu and select Options.
  • On the Mail Services Tab, click Reconfigure Mail Support .
  • On the E-mail Service Options page, click to select the mail support option you are switching to. Click Next.
  • Read the warning message and then click Yes. Outlook will close.
  • Start Outlook. The Windows Installer will start and install the required files.

  • The second part of this process is to reconfigure Outlook. From your desktop, right-click on Outlook and select Properties.
  •

  • In the next dialog box that opens, click the Add button.

  • In the next dialog box that opens, select Microsoft Exchange Server and then click OK.

  •

  • In the next dialog box that opens, enter the following information, then click OK.
    • Microsoft Exchange Server = Exchange.mccombs.utexas.edu
    • Mailbox = User Name (your MSB Account)

  • Back at the main properties box again, click Add once more.

  •

  • Select Outlook Address Book and OK. You will get a dialog box warning you that the service you have chosen will not start until you exit and log off Outlook. Click OK and forget about it. Then click OK one more time to leave the main properties dialog box.

  •

  • Now Outlook should be configured properly. You can simply double-click Outlook to open it as you normally would.
