Outlook 2007 setup

How you go about setting up Outlook 2007 to access your McCombs email depends on how you’ve been using Outlook already. Click the link for the setup that is appropriate for you:

I've never used or even opened Outlook on this computer

  1. If you are not on-campus, establish a secure connection using VPN.
  2. From your Start menu, select All Programs > Microsoft Office > Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
  3. At the startup screen, click Next.
  4. Select “Yes” and click Next.
  5. Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” box and click Next.
  6. Select “Microsoft Exchange” and click Next.
  7. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type exchange.mccombs.utexas.edu.
  8. Make sure “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked.
  9. In the User Name field, type your msbaccount.
  10. Click Check Name.
  11. At this point, you may be asked to log in. Log in as mccombs\msbaccount, where msbaccount is your personal MSB account.
  12. The exchange server will change names and your name should appear in the User Name field.
  13. Click the More Settings button.
  14. On the Security tab, check both checkboxes and click OK.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Finish.

I've opened Outlook, but I did not set up an email account

  1. If you are not on-campus, establish a secure connection using VPN.
  2. From your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Mail. (If you do not see Mail, click Switch to classic view on the left.)
  4. Click Show Profiles.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Name your profile mccombs and click OK.
  7. Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” box and click Next.
  8. Select “Microsoft Exchange” and click Next.
  9. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type exchange.mccombs.utexas.edu
  10. Make sure “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked.
  11. In the User Name field, type your msbaccount.
  12. Click Check Name.
  13. At this point, you may be asked to log in. Log in as mccombs\msbaccount, where msbaccount is your personal MSB account.
  14. The exchange server will change names and your name should appear in the User Name field.
  15. Click the More Settings button.
  16. On the Security tab, check both checkboxes and click OK.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Select “Always use this profile” and from the drop-down list, select mccombs.
  20. Click OK.

I use Outlook to check another Exchange email account

You will need to create a second profile to access your McCombs account.

  1. If you are not on-campus, establish a secure connection using VPN.
  2. From your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Mail. (If you do not see Mail, click Switch to classic view on the left.)
  4. Click Show Profiles.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Name your profile mccombs and click OK.
  7. Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” box and click Next.
  8. Select “Microsoft Exchange” and click Next.
  9. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type exchange.mccombs.utexas.edu.
  10. Make sure “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked.
  11. In the User Name field, type your msbaccount.
  12. Click Check Name.
  13. At this point, you may be asked to log in. Log in as mccombs\msbaccount, where msbaccount is your personal MSB account.
  14. The exchange server will change names and your name should appear in the User Name field.
  15. Click the More Settings button.
  16. On the Security tab, check both checkboxes and click OK.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. On the Mail screen, select “Prompt for a profile to be used.”
  20. Whenever you open Outlook, you will be asked which profile you want to open. To view your McCombs email, select mccombs. Your other profile is probably called Outlook.

I use Outlook to check a POP3 or HTTP email account

If you are already checking a POP3 or HTTP email account through Outlook, follow the instructions below to add your McCombs email account to your profile. 

  1. If you are not on-campus, establish a secure connection using VPN.
  2. From your Start menu, open the Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Mail. (If you do not see Mail, click Switch to classic view on the left.)
  4. Click Show Profiles.
  5. Select the profile (probably called Outlook) and click Properties.
  6. Click E-mail Accounts.
  7. Click New.
  8. Select “Microsoft Exchange Server, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP” and click Next.
  9. Check the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” box and click Next.
  10. Select "Microsoft Exchange" and click Next.
  11. In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, type exchange.mccombs.utexas.edu.
  12. Make sure “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked.
  13. In the User Name field, type your msbaccount.
  14. Click Check Name.
  15. Read the Mail Delivery Location message and click OK.
  16. At this point, you may be asked to log in. Log in as mccombs\msbaccount, where msbaccount is your personal MSB account.
  17. The exchange server will change names and your name should appear in the User Name field.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Click Close.

Please note:  If you are using rules in Outlook, the rules will apply to all incoming email, regardless of which account it is sent to.
