Contacts Skills

Add a Contact

1. You can save personal contacts in Outlook. To see your contacts, click the Contacts button in the Navigation Pane.
2. Click the New button to create a new contact.
3. Fill out as much information as you can about the contact. Outlook can store multiple addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
4. Click Save and Close.

Create a Distribution List

1. In Contacts, click the drop-down arrow next to New and select Distribution List.
2. Type the distribution list's name in the Name field.  
3. Click Select Members.
4. You can add members from the Global Address List or your personal Contacts. To add a member, double-click the name or select the name and click Members. When done adding members, click OK.
5. If your members are not in your Contacts list, you can add them by clicking Add new.... Enter a display name and email address and click OK.
6. When done, click Save and Close. The distribution list will appear in your Contacts list.

Adding the UT Directory as an address book in Outlook

  1. In Outlook, go to the Tools menu and select Email Accounts
  2. Select Add a new directory… and click Next
  3. Select Internet Service Directory LDAP and click Next
  4. In the server name field, enter directory.utexas.edu
  5. Click More Settings
  6. Click OK at message pop-up
  7. On the Search tab, enter
    dc=directory,dc=utexas,dc=edu
    and click OK
  8. Click Ok or Finish till exit.
  9. Close Outlook.
  10. Reopen Outlook.

To use the UT Directory:

  1. Start a new email message and click To.
  2. Change Show Names from the: to directory.utexas.edu.
  3. In Outlook 2002, click Find. In Outlook 2003, click Advanced and select Find.
  4. Search on first and/or last name.
  5. Select the correct person and click To.

Once you've found a name in directory.utexas.edu, it will remain in the list, so next time you can just select the name and click To.
