Declaring/Changing a Major

Business students may declare or change a major using this online form.

All students enter the School of Business as Unspecified majors (except students admitted directly into the Business Honors Program or Professional Program in Accounting).  Business students may only declare one official major, as they may receive only one B.B.A. degree.  Students may also declare a minor.

Business students must declare a major before they can register for most upper-division business courses.  Since in most cases students have not yet taken any courses in their prospective major yet, we recommend students declare the major that interests them the most at that time, and to keep in mind they can always change it as they progress further in their degree.

To declare a major, a student must:

  1. clear any high school unit deficiencies
  2. fulfill the foreign language proficiency requirement (2 years of high school in a single foreign language OR 2 semesters of college in a single foreign language)
  3. register with the Ford Career Center (usually done during BA 101)
  4. complete 30 hours of college credit, including:
    • Math 408K & 408L (or equivalent),
    • ECO 304K & 304L (or equivalent),
    • BA 101 (Business Honors students will need both BA 101H AND BA 102H)

Students may declare a major while currently enrolled in BA 101, if they have completed all other requirements.  All Math and Economics courses must be successfully completed (final grade received) before a student may declare.

Students may declare one of the following majors:

The Business Honors Program (BHP) and the BBA/MPA: integrated approach have separate applications. You must contact these departments for their application and admission requirements.

Students may change their major online at any time and as many times as needed.

Additional Notes:

  • Students who wish to leave the Business Honors Program or BBA/MPA: integrated approach must first contact their program advisor.
  • Business Honors majors can add or change a second business major by using the online declare major form.
