Tips for Summer Transfer Courses
If you plan to take classes at a community college or other university this summer, here are a few things to remember.
To find out when your semester will start and how to register for courses, visit the website of the school you plan to attend and follow their directions. UT advisors are responsible for all information at UT, not information at ACC, HCC, etc.
The UT Admissions Office has a great tool for figuring out what courses from other Texas institutions will transfer correctly back to UT: http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/ate
[To find out if a course from out-of-state will transfer to UT, you must fill out a pre-evaluation form from the Admissions Office.]
On the
Automated Transfer Equivalency system, you can
search:
a. By UT course
b. by your particular institution's course
Some courses will transfer exactly, like "GOV 310L" - if so great. Some courses will not have an exact transfer: "GOV 3 US" - these are the courses that you need to be careful with, so here are some guidelines on commonly transferred courses.
HIS (legislative requirement): Look for HIS 315K or HIS 315L or HIS 3 US or HIS 3 TX
GOV (legislative requirement)
- the following combinations will work:
GOV 310L + GOV 312L
GOV 310L + GOV 3 US
GOV 310L + GOV 3 TX
GOV 3 US + GOV 3 TX
GOV 3 US +
GOV 312L will NOT fulfill the GOV
requirement
CMS 306M/Speech – the
following classes will work:
CMS 306M,
CMS 305,
CMS 319,
SPE 305,
or SPE 319
CMS 3 HRS or SPE 3 HRS will NOT fulfill our CMS
requirement
English Literature: Look for E 316K or E 3SophLit
Most other schools in Texas require a
second Freshman English class (RHE 309K or
RHE 307) that the School of Business does
not require. If you have not taken this
class previously, you may not be able to
enroll for their Sophomore English class
(E 316K). Check with the school you
plan to attend.
RHE 309K or
RHE 307 will NOT fulfill your E 316K
requirement
To complete your transfer of course work, you must bring your transcript to the UT Office of Admissions in Main 7. You can also contact your school to see if they can send a transcript electronically to UT Austin.
If you are unsure that a particular course will transfer correctly, check with your Academic Advisor BEFORE taking it.
