Every student at a Texas state
university must take six hours of
American History. This requirement may
be fulfilled by any History course in
the Course Schedule which contains the
statement, "Partially fulfills
legislative requirement for American
History." Three hours of Texas
History may be substituted for three
hours of American History.

prerequisites and course offerings.
Course offerings change every semester.
Below is listed the two most widely
taken U.S. History courses at U.T.
Austin as well as other Texas state
universities:
HIS 315K - United States, 1492-1865
Survey of United States history from the colonial period through the Civil War.
prerequisites: 15 semester hours of coursework.
HIS 315L - United States Since 1865
Survey of United States history from the Civil War to the present day.
prerequisites: 15 semester hours of coursework.
The following transfer courses are also accepted: HIS 3 US and HIS 3 TX.
