Natural Science
For every business major other than Engineering Route to Business, one of the following combinations of Science courses must be used to fulfill the Natural Science requirement. No other combinations will fulfill the Natural Science requirement for the BBA degree.
Acceptable combinations:Astronomy + Astronomy
Chemistry + Chemistry
Geology + Geology
Physics + Physics
Biology + Biology*
*Microbiology, Botany, and Zoology are listed under Biology at UT. If you have taken or plan to take any of these courses outside of UT, they may count as part of your Natural Science requirement. Check with your advisor about transferability.
Caution: It is imperative that you check course prerequisites in the Course Schedule. Many departments enforce them, and may drop you from the class if you do not meet the prerequisite requirement.
NOTE:
PHY
306 will not count towards any degree at
the University of Texas at Austin.
Physical Science courses WILL NOT count
towards this requirement.
Non-Science Major Courses
Most departments offer courses designed for non-science majors. These courses will be noted in the Course Schedule with a phrase similar to "Designed for Non-science majors," or "May not be counted toward a degree in Geological Sciences."
Here are some examples of each type:
Non-science Majors - BIO 301D, CH 304K, GEO 302D, PHY 309K, AST 301
Science Majors - BIO 311C, CH 301, GEO 303, PHY 303K, AST 307
Warning about Natural Science Courses: You may also find the phrase, "Only one of the following may be counted" in the Course Schedule or Undergraduate Catalog. This means that only one of the following courses in each numbered set of courses may be used for a degree:
Astronomy- 301 or 302 or 303 or 307
- 301L or 302 or 311C
- 301M or 304 or 311D
- 301 or 304K
- 401 or 303 or 312K
- 302E or 302K (Earth, Wind, & Fire)
- GEO 307 is the same as Marine Science 307
- 301 or 302K or 303K or 309K or 317K
- 302L or 303L or 309L or 316 or 317L
