Welcome to myMcCombsbeta

This year McCombs undergraduate students will help us test a new approach to serving your needs. While we work towards building a brand new McCombs website, we have split the undergraduate site into two parts, one for current students and one for prospective students. All pages of the current student site feature the myMcCombs toolbar, which will allow you to jump directly to the myBBA directory.

  1. Can I use the on-line Graduation Application?
The on-line graduation application is available to students who meet the following criteria:

    • Currently enrolled in the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. This does NOT include University Extension classes.
    • Is currently in one of the following majors: Accounting, Business Honors, Engineering Route to Business, Finance, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or the BBA/MPA: integrated approach.
    • Has completed 100 or more total hours, and these hours appear on the student's record in the Registrar's Office.

Students who are not currently enrolled at UT Austin, but are completing or have completed all of their degree requirements must register to graduate In Absentia.

  2. What is "In Absentia" graduation?
If you intend to graduate during a semester when you are not taking classes in residence at UT, it is necessary for you to register In Absentia. [NOTE: If you are registered only in UT Distance Education and/or University Extension courses (night classes), you are NOT registered in residence at UT Austin.] In Absentia candidates should read this web page regarding procedures and eligibility to apply to graduate In Absentia. You should do this before meeting with an advisor since it will answer most of your questions.

  3. Can I take a class at another school my last semester?
NO! You cannot enroll concurrently in courses at UT and another institution during the semester that you plan to graduate, because your transfer records cannot be processed before official certification. If you register at another school the first summer session and hope to graduate in August, you will jeopardize meeting the deadline to apply to graduate. Your transfer credit must be on your UT records by the deadline to apply to graduate. Otherwise, you will have to register to graduate In Absentia in the fall.

  4. What if I'm completing a second bachelor's degree?
If you are completing more than one bachelor's degree at UT Austin, your BBA graduation application will NOT reflect this. You must apply to graduate with the dean's office for each degree you are completing. For example, if you're completing a BBA in Finance and a BA in Spanish, you must submit one graduation application with the McCombs School of Business and another with the College of Liberal Arts.

  5. Graduation with University Honors
Graduation with University honors is based on the UT GPA, the average of all grades earned in courses taken at the University, whether the courses were passed, failed, or repeated. Courses taken pass/fail are not counted in the grade point average.

In the McCombs School of Business:

    • Highest honors are awarded to the top 4% of graduates whose GPA is at least 3.80
    • High honors are awarded to the next 6% of graduates whose GPA is at least 3.65
    • Honors are awarded to the next 10% of graduates whose GPA is at least 3.50.

Percentage requirements are not applied to August and December graduating classes. The grade point averages established for May graduates are applied to the following August and December classes to determine honors, high honors, and highest honors.

YEAR Highest Honors High Honors Honors

  6. What is my class rank?
The McCombs School of Business does not officially rank students until they graduate, because that is when their class size is determined. Students who wish to calculate their approximate rank-in-class can use the percentile rank table for spring 2003 BBA graduates.  Your official class rank will be noted on a letter you will receive from the School of Business after graduation.

  7. Commencement Ceremonies
All spring and summer degree candidates are eligible to participate in the May BBA commencement ceremony. December degree candidates may participate in the December ceremony. During this ceremony, BBA degree candidates' names are called as they walk across the stage and receive a letter of congratulations from the Dean. All diplomas are mailed to the students' permanent address by the Office of the Registrar. For more information see Commencement Information site.

  8. Student Responsibility
It is your responsibility to know and fulfill all degree requirements stated in the General Information Catalog, the McCombs School of Business Catalog in which you intend to graduate, and the information sheets in the Undergraduate Dean's Office lobby (CBA 2.400). It is also your responsibility to know the deadline to apply to graduate according to the University's official academic calendar.

  9. What happens after I graduate?
Your major code (e.g., Accounting, Finance, etc.) converts to DEGREE HOLDER/NON-DEGREE SEEKER (00300) once your BBA is awarded. 200300 majors have the lowest registration priority. Therefore, it is important to register early for any business courses you may want to take the semester immediately after your graduation semester. For example, students graduating in May can register for extra business courses for the summer and/or fall during the spring registration period. After your major code converts to 200300, you will have to submit a petition in CBA 2.400 for each business course you wish to take. Enrollment demands on certain business courses may prohibit you from registering for those courses.

Also be aware that your MSB account, email, McCombs website, and McCombs notebook computer will all be affected by your graduation.  The steps you should take before graduation are listed on the Technology Training team's website.
