Adds

To add a course, a business student (1) must obtain all required approvals; (2)  must be eligible to take the course, and there must be space available in the course; and (3) must remain in conformity with the maximum-hour policy.

Subject to these requirements, a registered student may add a course through the twelfth class day of a long-session semester or the fourth class day of a summer term. Through the fourth class day of the semester or the second class day of the summer term, a student may add classes on the online registration system; after these dates, the approval of the appropriate department is required.

For suggestions on adding a full class or using Waitlists, see the Tips for Registration page.

After the twelfth class day of a semester or the fourth class day of a summer term, the student may add a course only in rare and extenuating circumstances as approved by the student's dean and the chair of the department offering the course.

Drops

Subject to the conditions below, an undergraduate business student may drop a course through the midsemester deadline in a long-session semester or the last class day in a summer term; these dates and the dates of other deadlines discussed below are given in the Academic Calendar, and in advising emails.

A student who may drop below 12 hours should first consult the Full-Time/Part-Time Student information.

International students must obtain written permission from the International Office, in addition to other required approvals, to drop a course.

Dropping a course through the twelfth class day (fourth day in summer):

During this period, the student may initiate a drop through the registration system, and the course is deleted from his or her academic record.  If applicable under the Flat Rate Tuition Policy, the student will receive a refund.

Dropping a course through the fourth week of classes (tenth class day in summer) - the "Auto Q" period:

To drop a course during this period, the student must have the approval of the Undergraduate Programs Office.  Business students may come to the UPO in CBA 2.400 and complete a drop request form, which will be automatically approved in most cases.  The symbol Q appears on his or her academic record to indicate a drop without academic penalty. No refund is given.

Dropping a course after the fourth week of classes (tenth class day in summer) through the midsemester deadline - the "Q/F" period:

To drop a course during this period, the student must have the approval of the instructor and the Undergraduate Programs Office.  Students may pick up a drop request form in CBA 2.400.

If the instructor approves the drop, he or she will assign the symbol Q or a grade of F. The symbol Q indicates that no academic penalty is in order because of the student's performance and/or the nature of the course.

Dropping a course after midsemester:

After the midsemester deadline, an undergraduate business student may not drop a course.  A student who feels he or she has an urgent and documented nonacademic reason to request a drop after the deadline should contact his or her Academic Advisor.

Withdrawals

A business student who wishes to withdraw from the University (drop all courses) after completing registration for a semester or summer session must secure the approval of the Undergraduate Programs Office.  Students may pick up a withdrawal form in the UPO, CBA 2.400.  A student may not withdraw or drop all classes online.

International students must have permission from the International Office to withdraw. The dean's permit to withdraw must be submitted to the registrar, where the student may request a refund of fees in accordance with University policy - see the current Course Schedule.

After the midsemester deadline (see the Academic Calendar), an undergraduate business student may not withdraw A student who feels he or she has an urgent and documented nonacademic reason to request a withdrawal after the deadline should contact his or her Academic Advisor.
