Other business courses cannot be substituted for Business Foundations courses, except for the following:
Advisors in any of the advising offices on campus.
There are no course prerequisites for any of the courses except FIN 320F, which has a prerequisite of ACC 310F
and MIS 311F.
No.
The courses should be viewed as the equivalent of a minor. Since most M.B.A. programs are inclined to discourage
undergraduate business degrees, a non-business degree together with a B.F.P. certificate should be positively received.
No. Any undergraduate student at U.T. other than business majors is eligible to enroll in BFP courses. The only application
involved is the online "Request for BFP
Certification" which must be submitted by those intending to complete the entire program.
Yes. The University permits continuous registration in undergraduate classes even after a degree has been earned. However, if
a student has not been enrolled for one full semester or longer, returning to take BFP courses would require applying to U.T.
for readmission.
No. You must complete the online
Request for BFP Certification.
The Certificate is typically mailed to the student's permanent address within three weeks after the end of the semester in
which he or she graduates.
The University's Extension Division (512/471-2900) also regularly offers Foundations courses, no more than two of which may
be used to substitute for BFP courses taught in the McCombs School of Business.
Beginning in the fall of 1997, ECO 302 & 303 have not only been renumbered as ECO 304 K & L but the micro-economics
course, 304K, has been made a prerequisite for 304L. Thus, if you intend to fulfill this particular requirement at U.T.,
you should enroll in ECO 304K. If your preference is to satisfy this requirement by taking a principles course at another
institution, including an accredited community college, any course that is accepted for transfer credit by the U.T. Office
of Admissions as the equivalent of ECO 302 or ECO 303 or ECO 304K or ECO 304L will be sufficient. Remember, you must
complete it with a grade of C or higher. See the Automated Transfer Equivalency System to verify transfer credit.
For students with excellent foundations course GPA's, the faculty has authorized, consistent with and parallel to The
University's "Honors" designations, BFP Certificates to be awarded "With Highest Distinction" for those earning A's in all
six courses, "With High Distinction" for those earning five A's and one B, and "With Distinction" for four A's and two B's.
A grade of C in any BFP course will disqualify any student for "Distinction" designation, even if the other five grades were
A's.
