Knowledge To Go Webinars

The Knowledge To Go (KTG) webinar series gives McCombs alumni the ability to continue their active learning relationship with the university. These periodic one-hour webinars are conducted live at noon Central Standard Time, and then posted on the web for those who can't join live. Knowledge To Go lets you learn about today’s most urgent business issues from the leading minds at UT--all from the convenience of your desktop.

webinar. Attendees will have a chance to ask the speaker questions through live chat comments during the session. If you've never attended a Connect Pro meeting, you can prepare in advance by testing your connection.

in Texas may receive one CPE credit per webinar. No prerequisites or advance preparation are required.

Sandy Leeds is a Distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Finance Department faculty at The University of Texas at Austin, and President of the MBA Investment Fun, LLC. He teach both graduate and undergraduate level courses. He has a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin, and a B.S. in Investment Management from the University of Alabama. He is a member of the Texas State Bar, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Kristie Loescher 2017.12.13 "US Healthcare System Challenges" 

Professor Kristie Loescher teaches management, leadership, and business communications. She has her doctorate in business administration from Nova Southeastern University, specializing in human resources management. Prior to her career in academia, Kristie worked in the healthcare industry for 15 years in the areas of quality assurance, utilization management, and clinical research. Her academic publications focus on ethical education, organizational ethics, communication, change management, diversity management, process improvement in health care delivery systems, and health care reform. Dr. Loescher is the associate director for the Business Foundations Program and the director of curriculum and community engagement for the Healthcare Innovation Initiative. Dr. Loescher is also a co-author of the book, Communication Matters: Write, Speak, Succeed published by Kendall Hunt in 2007 with a second edition in 2010.

Cultural factors are often cited as a source of problems for international ventures; however, creating cultural synergies can lead to global teams and projects that outperform single-culture counterparts. In this presentation, Dr. Deirdre Mendez will use real-world examples to explain how to recognize cultural tendencies to avoid and solve culture-based problems and leverage cultural knowledge to improve communication and build relationships. Dr. Mendez will describe a step-by-step approach to designing a goal-based project or organizational culture and identify management practices that integrate cultural difference and leverage the strengths of diverse cultural approaches.

Deirdre B. Mendez, Ph.D. is an intercultural consultant, speaker, and author who helps U.S. companies and their international partners identify and resolve culturally based problems. After two decades as a consultant, she joined the Center for Global Business at The University of Texas at Austin, where she is now associate director for cultural programs. Throughout her career, she has helped business people and companies manage cultural variation to minimize risk and enhance the performance of international projects. Her book “The Culture Solution,” facilitates self-guided problem-solving for international businesspeople. Dr. Mendez is a member of the faculties of management and marketing at the McCombs school of Business. She teaches international business and management to executives, MBA students, and undergraduates in the U.S. and abroad.
