McCombs Business Foundations Program

The Texas Business Foundations Program (Texas BFP) at UT’s top-rated McCombs School of Business is a certificate program designed to give undergraduate students of any discipline a fundamental background in business. There are three ways to earn your BFP Certificate:

Semester-Based BFP Courses

  • Open only to students enrolled at UT Austin
  • Complete 24 credit hours any time while completing your undergraduate degree
  • Satisfy certification requirements with classes that also count toward your UT degree
  • Web-based BFP classes

BFP Summer Institute

  • Open to any student enrolled at any accredited college or university
  • Complete 15 credit hours over 8 weeks during the summer
  • Participants must apply online and be accepted into the program

BFP On-Demand Courses

  • Open to anyone, whether enrolled at UT-Austin or not
  • Take classes on your own schedule, entirely online
  • Course content is identical to the UT-Austin semester-long, web-based Business Foundations courses
  • Credit appears on your transcript from UT Extension, and is factored into your UT GPA but does NOT satisfy residency requirements
  • Cost: $600 per course (NOT part of covered by UT-Austin flat-rate tuition)
