Alex Webb - BBA '16
iMPA - Integrated Master of Professional Accounting
Once I graduate from McCombs, I plan to work for one of the Big Four accounting firms in Houston. After my career in public accounting, I plan to earn my law degree and pair it with my CPA to open my own business. In the future, I hope to work and ultimately live abroad since traveling is so dear to my heart!
The faculty I have met during my academic career! My professors represent a diverse range of people who have accomplished many things during their lifetimes and still continue to do so. They constantly motivate their students to excel and turn their goals into a reality with encouragement and great life advice
I love to attend various events held all around the Forty Acres! I have roller skated in the union, salsa danced in the ballroom, participated in ghost tours, lounged by the pool and held multiple picnics on the south mall. Campus is overflowing with energy and interesting people who choose to create fun events for everyone to enjoy! And we can’t forget the football games!!
I attended the OU football game in Dallas, TX. I have been to many concerts in Austin and festivals such as ACL and some SXSW shows. I often kayak and paddleboard on the lake. I consider myself to be a coffee shop enthusiast.
Angela Morisette - BBA ‘15
Being outdoors and playing sports; tennis and kayaking are my favorites.
Where to start! McCombs truly has it all - from top-notch career services, awesome professors who care about your learning, and the best student organizations on campus. I would say that out of everything, my peers truly make my McCombs experience stand out. Unlike many top 10 business undergraduate schools, McCombs fosters a collaborative (rather than competitive) mindset.
Austin is everything a city should be for a college student: fun, diverse, and young with big city opportunities and a small-town hominess. The restaurant scene is also on another level - the unique food carts, upscale eateries, and Southern hospitality is unparalleled.
I love competing in business case competitions, and I've had the opportunity to solve real business problems for ConocoPhillips, Target, NOOM (a start-up app), Invodo, and Capital One, just to name a few. I think getting these experiences solving problems with a team of my friends are my coolest experiences in college. Also, hiking to the 360 Bridge look-out and going to Austin City Limits Music festival & OU rivalry game weekends are pretty cool and fun too!
I hope to solve meaningful problems for the business world through either consulting or simply being a dedicated member of a company. I also want to attend Wimbledon and the Olympics once, at least! I'd also love to have a golden retriever once I graduate.
Zilker Park is a great place to hang out when the weather is nice! Mount Bonnell and the 360 Bridge look-out are also pretty awesome places to just enjoy the outdoors with your friends as well. My absolute favorite is to go kayaking on Town Lake!

Supply Chain Management
Eagle Pass, TX
After graduating from UT this December, I would like to pursue a career in logistics within the realm of social enterprises and nonprofits. What I have learned through my work experience is that using market forces to make a profit and solving social issues do not have to be mutually exclusive. My mission in life is to pursue a career that merges the two.
One of the things I love most about McCombs is the emphasis on preparation for life after college. Our Career Services Team prepares students for their internships and helps us secure full-time offers with top companies before we graduate. And you can customize your degree to your heart’s desire: optional minors and interdisciplinary certificate programs let you adapt your degree to pursue your passion and stay competitive in today’s dynamic business world.
What I love about UT is that it is an open campus. This allows for fun events like Frisbee golf tournaments, the Longhorn Run, and even Holi, the cultural Indian festival, to be held throughout the Forty Acres. It is truly a place where you can not only excel in academics but enjoy and explore life outside of school.
I trained for 18 months to ride my bike from Austin to Anchorage, AK last summer with the Texas 4000 for Cancer team. I took a semester abroad to study business at the University of Thammasat in Bangkok, Thailand. I worked as a summer intern for PepsiCo’s Food for Good Social Enterprise program in Dallas, TX this past summer.
Anissa Martinez - BBA ‘16
Marketing and Sociology (double major)
Travel, reading, watching movies, eating, shopping, and sleeping!!!
I graduated from a small minority magnet high school in Houston. I wanted to come to McCombs because of the excellent rankings. Throughout high school, I had a mentor who graduated from McCombs and she encouraged me to apply.
I work in the BBA Program Office as a Supervising Peer Advisor. I am a member of American Marketing Association (AMA). I am also a member of UMOJA, which is a women's empowerment organization for minority women on campus.
Austin has a unique atmosphere. If you are a food lover, this is definitely the city that you want to be in. There are so many different types of restaurants, and a lot of them have reasonable prices for college students.
What I love about UT is the school spirit that everyone has and the endless possibilities. Coming from a smaller high school which did not exude much spirit, it was refreshing to come to a school that shows so much pride.
My favorite professor is Professor Meakin (LEB 323). Professor Meakin took the time out to tell personal stories and class and made every student feel open to asking any questions. When visiting office hours and while in class, he made sure that I understood the material. He made law seem much more
interesting. It was a pleasure being in his class.

Reading, traveling, and baking
I currently work as a Peer Advisor in the BBA Program Office, and I also serve as Membership Development Chairman for my sorority, Tri Delta. I have also served as a FIG mentor for a group of first-year students.
Getting to know my peers has been one of my favorite parts of my time at McCombs. It’s a privilege to be surrounded by such an ambitious, diverse group of students, and they teach me things every day.
Even though I’ve lived here for three years, I never feel like I’ve done and seen everything. My freshman year I made an Austin Bucket List that I wanted to finish by the time I graduate, and I’m still not even close to being done. It really feels like home, and it’s going to be hard to leave here next May.
The summer after my freshman year, I got to study abroad in Barcelona, Spain with my brother and some of my friends for seven weeks. It was my first time ever going to Europe, and I loved every second of it.
I love studying at Dominican Joe's, a coffee shop off South Congress. It’s nice to get away from campus every now and then, and I’ve been developing a pretty healthy coffee obsession that it’s been fueling.
John L. Connell - BBA ‘14
Producing electronic music, reading and listening to audio books, traveling, intramural sports, free online classes, WSOP competitor, NASA tour guide, Smash Bros., case competitions, stock pitch competitions.
As students, we have access to leadership organizations, professional speakers, networking panels, alumni events, competitions that simulate real-world situations, and many other outlets that add value to our education. Some of the very best learning experiences I had in my years on campus were found outside of the classroom.
Austin offers trails for the explorer, a plethora of food trucks for the foodie, a vast array of music festivals for the concert-goer, and many other channels to escape from the student study grind. If you have ever wanted to create your own company or business, we have one of the biggest start-up scenes around the nation.
There are many things I want to do in my life- some goals being more ambitious than others. Among these ambitions, I want to create a culture of giving within my generation. I want to help instill a sense of acceptance and open-mindedness among individuals of varying or even conflicting backgrounds. My train of thought is always on the big picture-what really matters from a holistic perspective?
At the University of Texas, we have a phrase “what starts here changes the world,” and I want to look back at my life someday and say that I lived my life in accordance to that phrase. I want to leave this world a better place than when I came into it.
Maurice Bell - BBA ‘16
San Antonio, TX
I plan to graduate with my BBA in Marketing then gain work experience with a large corporation’s marketing team. I hope to be able to travel as much as possible. My goal is to return to school for a Master’s in Business Administration and further my career in a consulting or management position.
The best part of McCombs is that it is one of the top-ranked business schools in the nation. Big name companies recognize we have the best professors and students and they want us! There are countless opportunities for students to connect with these companies through resources like the awesome Career Services Center, huge career fairs, and the unique On-Campus recruiting tool online.
I enjoy going to the student Union where they have an underground bowling alley, pool tables, and a theater with free movies on Wednesdays! I also like to explore the old and new buildings on campus in search of cool new study spots.
My freshman year philanthropy class received an anonymous donation of $100,000 which we were asked to allocate to charities of our choice. I was able to advocate for $20,000 of that donation to go towards the Austin’s Children Shelter. I saw John Legend perform at an event on campus. I was the General Mills Campus Ambassador, allowing me to meet new people, host information sessions, and share tons of samples!
Sanjay Iyer - BBA ‘16
Ice Hockey, soccer, travel, golf.
I’m a third year Finance major at the McCombs School of Business. This upcoming summer I will be interning with 3M in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a financial analyst.
This past year I was treasurer of Theta Chi Fraternity. Also, I am a Peer Advisor at the BBA Program Office. This upcoming year I plan on playing ice hockey in a men’s league in Round Rock.
My favorite thing about McCombs is that there are so many opportunities for students to get involved and find something they like to do. Within McCombs, I work as a Peer Advisor at the BBA Program Office and I am involved in Consult Your Community, which is a student organization that provides pro-bono consulting services to local Austin businesses.
This past summer I interned in Barcelona, Spain with a strategy consulting company. I worked there for 10 weeks and was able to explore the city with 20 other students from UT Austin. While abroad, I also visited London, Amsterdam, Morocco, and Pamplona. My favorite experience was going to Pamplona for the Running of the Bulls.
Sherry Zeng - BBA ‘14
Sugar Land, TX
Traveling, event planning, scrapbooking, watching musicals and operas, cooking, hiking/outdoors
I am a second year Marketing major and an International Business minor from Sugar Land, TX. I’m a huge foodie (ask me about me about my list of places I’ve been to in Austin!), a lover of sunshine, and an avid traveler.
Resident assistant (Almetris Duren Hall), Asian Business Students Association (ABSA), competitive ballroom dancing (Texas Ballroom)
I climbed the Mayan Ruins in Uxmal, Mexico, visited Facebook and Google offices (Thanks, ABSA!), and jumped off the Congress bridge during kayaking.
BA 324 - Everyone in McCombs needs to take it. The class prepares you for business concepts and you even get to do a mock case presentation! This course is especially useful both inside and outside of business, and it is one of the most useful and applicable classes I have taken so far.
There are way too many places in Austin to hang out! Late night food trucking is always one of the best activities. Your friends are the ones that make the hangout meaningful – not the location.
Tyler Scott - BBA ‘17
Reality TV, watching/discussing films, volleyball, walking my dog.
Texas Men of Excellence, Hispanic Business Student Association, BBA Program Office (Peer Advisor)
I love how the curriculum allows you to be well rounded in all facets of business regardless of your major. I also feel like the professors are just as into learning from the students as the students are into learning about the subjects they teach. It's a very collaborative environment where students can thrive both professionally and personally.
I love how the extracurricular community does such a great job of helping students find their niche, as UT can be an intimidating campus as large as it is. I also love how passionate students are about coming together during sporting events, and how openly proud everyone is to bleed orange.
I've been given the opportunity to travel on company field trips to both San Francisco and New York through the Hispanic Business Student Association. I am also going to be studying abroad in Paris this upcoming summer through McCombs.
I want to be a television producer, and possibly start my own production company. I am especially interested in the field of reality TV, and hope to one day see my visions and ideas play out on television for everyone to see. I also want to continue traveling across the world. My goal is to visit all 50 states and each of the 7 continents at least once.
