Business Foundations Certificate

Certification Process

  • Step 1: Register for the Business Foundation Program: BFP Certificate Registration
  • Step 2: Begin taking BFP classes with your UT coursework or apply to the McCombs Summer Institute
  • Step 3: Track your certificate progress to stay up to date with what you have completed: BFP Certificate Tracking
  • Step 4: During your last semester of BFP coursework, submit your certificate request: BFP Certificate Request
  • Step 5: Once the semester ends, the certification program will run and a digital copy of your certificate will be sent to the e-mail address you provide.
    (Students do not need to request certification until the beginning of their final semester of study, but can submit the form at any time)

BFP Certificate Overview

Texas BFP offers two distinct tracks toward earning a BFP certificate: The General Track provides business fundamentals for most Texas BFP participants, while the Global Track includes elements of international business for those interested in business worldwide.

General Track

General Track

To complete the Business Foundations Certificate General Track, students complete the following courses:

Lower Division Courses
  • Economics 3 hours
  • Statistics 3 hours (a number of courses throughout the University may be substituted for the Statistics prerequisite; for a complete list see the Stats Equivalency Guide)
  • MIS 302F - Foundations of Management Information Systems (a number of courses throughout the University may be substituted for the MIS prerequisite; for a complete list see the MIS Equivalency Guide)
  • ACC 310F - Foundations of Accounting (alternatively students can take BOTH ACC 311 Managerial Accounting AND ACC 312 Financial Accounting)
Upper Division Courses
  • FIN 320F - Foundations of Finance (starting Fall 2017 ACC 310F will be a pre-requisite for FIN 320F)
  • LEB 320F - Foundations of Business Law
  • MAN 320F - Foundations of Management 
  • MKT 320F - Foundations of Marketing
  • BA 320F - Foundations of Entrepreneurship 
  • IB 320F - Foundations of International Business 

Global Track

Global Track

To complete the Business Foundations Certificate Global Track, students complete the following courses:

Lower Division Courses
  • Economics 3 hours
