The purpose of the Financial Analyst Program Advisory Council is threefold. First, the FAP Advisory Council enhances communication between alumni, current students, faculty, and investment professionals affiliated with the Financial Analyst Program. FAP Advisory Council members have contact information available to current FAP students, and are accessible to provide students feedback regarding industry trends and practices in the field of investments. The FAP Advisory Council holds a formal, annual meeting at the University during the academic term. Advisory Council members also organize an informal meeting in the summer in their respective cities for FAP alumni, and current FAP students interning in the same city.
Second, FAP Advisory Council members support the applied aspect of the curriculum by preparing and updating interview materials, investment models, and industry cases. Third, FAP Advisory Council members support the efforts of the finance department to foster involvement and donations by individuals and corporate partners.
- Steven Bauer
Steven J. Bauer is a Managing Director at Maverick Capital located in Dallas and a member of the global industrials, materials and energy team. Before joining Maverick in 2007, he was an Investment Banking Associate at Goldman Sachs & Co. covering financial institutions and has prior experience in other various investment banking positions.
Steven graduated from The University of Texas with a BBA in Finance and received his MBA with honors from Columbia Business School. Steven is a Board member of Urban Montessori Charter School in Oakland, CA and has served several other non-profit Boards, as well.
- Narayan Bhargava
Narayan currently works at The SDB Group as business development officer. SDB is involved in several different facets of the oil and gas industry from manufacturing to distribution to exploration. During his time at SDB, Narayan has been involved in international and domestic expansion and market development covering North America, Africa and Asia. He also currently serves as president of two SDB subsidiaries and director of another.
In addition, Narayan is the treasurer and youngest director in the National Association of Steel Pipe Distributors (NASPD), an industry organization aimed towards uniting companies that manufacture, trade, and distribute steel pipe across the world for oil/gas and structural applications. During his off time, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing sports, and catching up on TV shows. He earned his BBA in Business Honors and finance back in 2010.
- David Cecere
David Cecere is a Principal at Tailwater Capital LLC, a Dallas based private equity firm focused on domestic midstream and upstream investment opportunities. David joined Tailwater at inception and is responsible for deal sourcing, transaction execution, and portfolio oversight. He currently serves as a Director of Petro Waste Environmental and TexStar Midstream Logistics. Prior to joining Tailwater, David was an Associate at HM Capital where his primary responsibilities included evaluating, executing, and monitoring investments in the energy portfolio. David began his career at Merrill Lynch where he worked as an Analyst providing capital raising and M&A advisory services for energy companies. David earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Finance and a BA in Plan II Honors.
- Eric Yu Chang
Eric Chang is the Director of Finance at Bright Horizon Resources, a private-equity backed oil and gas company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Before joining Bright Horizon Resources, Eric was an Associate at Kayne Anderson in Houston. Prior to Kayne Anderson, Eric was an Investment Banking Analyst in the Oil & Gas Group at Credit Suisse in Houston. Eric received a BBA in Finance and BA in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin.
- Andres Churin
Andres is an Associate at Dos Rios Partners, a middle market private equity fund located in Austin, Texas. In 2010, Andres started his career as an analyst at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York City where he focused on a variety of investments including direct and secondary private equity investments across all industries. After Goldman, Andres worked for Satori Capital in Dallas, Texas where he was responsible for deal sourcing, due diligence, monitoring investments, and other transaction-related issues. Andres majored in Finance and Business Honors, and graduated with Honors in 2010.
- Jimmy Crain
Jimmy Crain is a Director at EnCap Investments, an energy-focused private equity firm with over $18 billion under management. Jimmy’s role at EnCap is to source and evaluate new investment opportunities as well as sit on the board of current portfolio companies. Prior to EnCap, Jimmy worked at Insight Equity, a turnaround and special situations private equity fund with approximately $1 billion under management. Before joining Insight, Jimmy was an associate at EnCap Investments. Jimmy received a BBA in Finance from the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. He also received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Jimmy is a CFA charterholder.
- Travis Devitt
Travis Devitt currently works as an analyst at Ancient Art LP (dba Teton Capital Partners), an Austin based, value oriented hedge fund focused on equities and credit. Prior to joining Ancient Art, Travis worked as an analyst at Stadium Capital Management, a long/short equity hedge fund based in Bend, Oregon. Travis also actively invests in startups and is a member of the Central Texas Angel Network. Travis’s previous work experience also includes internships at Goldman Sachs and Meritage Capital. Travis earned a B.B.A. in Finance and the Business Honors Program from the University of Texas at Austin.
- Chris Dorsey
Chris Dorsey joined Palantir in 2013 as an Embedded Analyst based out of Palo Alto. He joined Palantir after spending two years at TPG Growth, the middle market platform of the global private investment firm TPG Capital. Prior to TPG Growth, Chris worked as an investment banking analyst for J.P. Morgan's M&A group in New York. Chris received his B.B.A in Business Honors and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
- Sean Frankenberg
Sean Frankenberg graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Finance. Sean worked at Greenhill & Co. in its M&A, restructuring and proprietary investing groups and at Providence Equity Partners as an investment professional. He is currently an Analyst at Firefly Value Partners, a value-focused investment firm in New York.
- Evan Gow
Evan Gow is an Analyst in Evercore's Restructuring and Debt Capital Markets Group in New York. Prior to being an Analyst at Evercore, Evan served as an intern at Evercore, Fulcrum Capital, a distressed credit fund, and at EdgeHill Capital Partners, an insurance-focused private equity fund. Evan graduated with a B.A. (Highest Honors) in Honors Economics and a B.B.A. (Highest Honors) in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 2013.
- Sarah Groen
Sarah Groen is the Co-founder and Director of SURGE Accelerator. A first for the energy industry, SURGE is a mentor-driven, seed accelerator designed to invest in, prepare, and support innovators as they take their ideas to market. Over 100 mentors from the energy industry work with start-ups to "solve the world’s energy problems using software.
Sarah manages relationships with hundreds of energy investors around the country, coordinates the investment process and program, and acts as a mentor to SURGE founders.
Prior to SURGE, Sarah was a private equity investor, an oil & gas financial analyst, and a strategy consultant. She has an MBA from Stanford University where she focused on entrepreneurship and a BBA from The University of Texas. Sarah has been a guest at several speaking events on energy software and is an organizer of the Texas Cleanweb Hackathon and Startup Weekend Houston. Sarah also sails competitively and has traveled to 45 countries and 7 continents.
- Hilary Hoffman
Hilary Hoffman is an Associate at General Atlantic where she focuses on the portfolio management process. She joined General Atlantic's New York office in 2011 where she originally focused on investing in the Business Services sector. Prior to joining GA, Hilary was an investment banking analyst at Greenhill & Co. in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Restructuring advisory groups. Hilary graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. in Honors Business and Finance.
- Matthew Innamorati
Matthew Innamorati is Vice President of Finance and Business Development at Align Midstream Partners, a private equity backed oil and gas midstream company located in Dallas, TX. Prior to joining Align Midstream, Matthew was a Consultant with The Boston Consulting Group where he advised companies in the energy industry. Before The Boston Consulting Group, Matthew was a financial analyst and sector head at Bonanza Capital, a $550M hedge fund. Prior to joining Bonanza Capital, Matthew worked as a Summer Analyst in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley in NYC. Matthew received his BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005 and his MBA from Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia in 2011.
- Zuhair Khan (Co-Chair)
Zuhair Khan works for Madison Dearborn Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm that has managed over $18 billion of equity capital. Previously, Zuhair worked for Evercore Partners, an investment bank in New York City. He currently serves on the UT Austin McCombs School of Business BBA/MPA Alumni Advisory Board and the Friar Society Alumni Committee. Zuhair also serves on the Executive Board of Muslim Urban Professionals, the world's largest Muslim professionals organization. Zuhair graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Business Honors and Finance, and BA in History. At UT, he was awarded the R.C. Doenges Award as the most outstanding Business Honors graduate and the McCombs School of Business Rising Star Award.
- Fauzul Lakhani
Fauzul Lakhani is an Associate of Riverstone. He is based in Houston. Prior to joining Riverstone in 2012, Mr. Lakhani was an Analyst in the Global Energy Investment Banking Group at Credit Suisse. While at Credit Suisse, Mr. Lakhani worked on M&A transactions and capital markets financings, with a focus on the oil and gas sector. Mr. Lakhani graduated with honors from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Finance.
- Kurt Leedy
Kurt is a Principal at Ridgemont Equity Partners, where he focuses on the group’s investment activity in telecommunications / media / technology. Kurt is on the board of directors at Unite Private Networks, Simpleview and AccentHealth and is actively involved in our investments in ServiceMaster and Intelsat. Prior to joining Ridgemont’s predecessor fund, Banc of America Capital Investors, in 2005, Kurt was a strategy consultant in the Dallas office of Bain & Company. His work there involved cases in the retail, airline and defense industries in both the US and Mexico. Kurt earned his M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Palmer Scholar and graduated with Honors. He graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Texas with a B.B.A. in Finance and a B.A. in Spanish and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Kurt is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and is fluent in Spanish.
- Ted Maa
Ted Maa is a Principal on the energy investment team at Pine Brook Partners. Ted represents Pine Brook as a director of Comet Ridge Resources, LLC, Elevation Resources Holdings LLC, High Ground Energy Inc., Saguaro Resources Ltd., and Serafina Energy Ltd. Prior to joining Pine Brook, Ted was a Vice President at Denham Capital Management, LP, where he specialized in energy infrastructure and oilfield services investment opportunities. Prior to that, Ted was an analyst in the Global Investment Research Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co, where he focused on energy master limited partnerships. Earlier in his career, he spent two years with Apache Corporation as an analyst in the Strategic Planning Group.
Ted holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
- Hans Malzar
Hans Malzar works as a manager on the Global Gaming team at Facebook in Silicon Valley. Prior to working at Facebook, Hans worked at a Berlin-based marketing start-up, AppLift. He joined the AppLift US team as the 5th employee and managed a team responsible for all US advertising clients. Hans started his career as a financial analyst at Microsoft in Redmond, WA. Some of his rotations included Investor Relations as well as Skype in Palo Alto, CA and he also led Microsoft’s Finance Rotation Program Recruiting Committee. Hans graduated with honors with a BBA in Finance in 2011 after participating in the Financial Analyst Program as well as leading the Texas Undergraduate Investment Team. As an undergraduate at UT-Austin, Hans was one of three student recruiters for the McCombs School of Business helping to recruit top talent to the school.
- Matt Matza
Matt Matza is Econohomes / VFS's Executive Vice President, where he spearheads capital raising efforts, oversees the acquisitions platform, and leads other strategic initiatives. Most recently, Matt was Managing Director for Cypress Real Estate Advisors where he led capital market activities and oversight for investment acquisitions, dispositions, and asset management activities. Matt's involvement with Cypress included the investment of over $700 million in equity across various asset classes. Prior to joining Cypress, Matt worked in Houston, Texas, for Centennial Ventures, a venture capital firm, where he evaluated investment opportunities in the telecom sector. Matt also worked in San Francisco, California, for McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm, where he advised clients across various industries. Matt received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas and a Masters in Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
- Basel Murad
Basel graduated from UT with a BHP/Finance degree in 2008, and worked on both the FAP fund and the inaugural Real Estate Fund. The summer of his junior year, Basel interned for Jefferies & Co. in NYC before graduation and loved it but decided to go the Oil & Gas route post-graduation in Houston. He joined Citigroup’s IBD group after graduation and was there for two years before moving over to RBC Capital Markets IBD group. In May 2013 Basel took a position as Manager of Corporate Finance for a private E&P and Midstream company in San Antonio called BlackBrush Oil & Gas / TexStar Midstream. They are a multi-billion private upstream and Midstream Company that is sponsor backed and solely focused on the Eagle Ford.

Blair is an Investment Banking Analyst at Greenhill & Co. in New York City. He joined the firm in 2013 and works in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Restructuring group. Blair graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. in Business Honors and Finance.

Prior to joining Highside, Zach worked in New York as an Associate for Providence Equity Partners, a private equity firm focused on investments in the media, telecommunications, entertainment and information services industries. - Preston Powell
Preston graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2009 with a Bachelor in Business Administration degree in Business Honors and Finance. After graduation, Preston worked in New York at Greenhill and Co., a boutique investment bank focused on mergers and acquisitions and restructurings. Following Greenhill, Preston moves to KKR, a global private equity firm, to focus on energy. Preston now works at Denham Capital, an energy focused private equity firm in Houston.
- Lauren Roberge
Lauren Roberge is a member of the corporate finance team at Lime Rock Resources, an oil and gas company based in Houston, Texas that seeks to acquire diverse proved oil and gas properties and provide its private investors with attractive long-term returns. Lauren plays an important role in the analysis of all Lime Rock Resources transactions and in the financial and operational performance of all Lime Rock Resources funds. Prior to joining Lime Rock, she worked as an associate at HitecVision Private Equity, a Norwegian private equity firm based in Norway. She also worked as an analyst in the Energy Investment Banking Group of Morgan Stanley. Lauren graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2010 where she earned a B.B.A. in Finance. At UT, Lauren was active in both the Financial Analyst Program and Student Government.
- Walt Roloson
Walt Roloson is leading operations and a cofounder at Impossible Ventures, an Austin-based startup. Prior to Impossible Ventures, he was a Senior Manager of Business Operations at LinkedIn, an Analyst at Tiger Global Management, an Analyst at Greenhill & Co., and an Analyst at Jefferies. Walt graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.B.A. in Finance and a B.A. in Computer Science (’05).
- Ryan Ruebsahm
Ryan Ruebsahm serves as Managing Director of UTIMCO’s Marketable Alternative Investments group where he oversees a six person team and the monitoring of 45 hedge fund relationships. Since joining in 2005, he has led the sourcing and due diligence of more than 25 hedge fund investments as the portfolio has grown from $3.5 billion to $9.5 billion (30% of endowment assets). He also serves on UTIMCO’s Investment Committee to discuss tactical positioning and new investment pipeline, and as Credit Committee Chair to evaluate credit opportunities across public and private markets. Mr. Ruebsahm began his career in the leveraged finance investment banking group of CIBC World Markets in New York where he completed $5 billion of debt financings across more than 20 transactions and was promoted to Associate. He received his MBA with honors from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin where he served as a portfolio manager on the $13 million MBA Investment Fund, LLC, and his BBA from The University of Texas at Austin where he participated in the Financial Analyst Program and received the College Scholar honors designation.
- Gautam Shah
Gautam currently works in Silicon Valley for Silver Lake Partners, a large-cap private equity firm focused on technology and technology-enabled investments with more than $23 billion in combined assets under management. Previously, Gautam worked in New York City for Evercore Partners, a boutique investment bank focused on mergers and acquisitions and restructuring. Gautam graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Business Honors and Finance where he was actively involved with the Undergraduate Business Council, Texas Equity Group, and McCombs Case Competitions. Outside of work, Gautam enjoys sports, hiking, and Texas BBQ.
- Brian Smith
Brian Smith is the vice president of finance overseeing the financial operations of Main Street Hub, Inc., an Austin-based CRM and marketing technology platform for local merchants backed by Bessemer Venture Partners. Previously, he served as vice president of finance of Bazaarvoice, Inc. (NASDAQ:BV) responsible for financial and strategic planning, investor relations and financing and M&A activities. Prior to moving to Austin, he worked in New York as a public equity investor with Tiger Management and an affiliated hedge fund and as an investment banker with Greenhill & Co. and in San Francisco as a private equity investor with Fox Paine & Co. He received a BBA in finance from the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
- Ka-Wai To
Ka-Wai is an Analyst at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in San Francisco, where he focuses on mergers and acquisitions as well as financings across a variety of sectors. Previously, he was an Analyst at Lazard Frères & Co. in Houston, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions in the energy sector. Ka-Wai currently serves on the junior board of Goldman Sachs' UT Austin recruiting team. Additionally, he previously served on the junior board of Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), a nationwide network of free open-enrollment college-preparatory schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United States. Ka-Wai received a B.B.A. in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin in 2013.
- Polidoros Trejos
Polidoros Trejos is a Senior Manager of Corporate Development & Planning at Sanchez Oil & Gas, where he explored strategic alternatives for its partnership’s Eagle Ford assets, resulting in Sanchez Energy’s IPO. Before joining Sanchez, Polidoros worked at Buckeye Partners, a midstream MLP, as a Senior Associate of Financial Planning & Analysis. Polidoros took a sabbatical in 2008 to fulfill his dream of traveling around the world. During this time, he joined Technoserve as their first Volunteer Financial Consultant in Ethiopia to help coffee farmers secure loans to buy coffee washing machines. After graduating from The University of Texas with Business Honors and Finance majors, he spent five years in investment banking, primarily with Lehman Brothers covering oil and gas companies. .
- Diane Tseng
Diane is a Vice President focusing on pre and post MBA searches in private equity, hedge funds, and venture capital. Before joining Glocap, she worked at J.P. Morgan in Debt Capital Markets, where she helped execute over $140bn of High Grade bond offerings, including the largest High Grade bond deal in history. Diane grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas with undergraduate degrees in Business Honors and Finance. Outside the office, Diane enjoys playing board games, going to spin class, watching Texas football, and exploring other countries.
- Justin Wang
Justin Wang is an Associate at Peak Rock Capital, an Austin-based private equity firm that makes debt and equity investments in middle market companies. Previously, he was an Investment Banking Analyst in the Oil & Gas Group at Credit Suisse in Houston. Justin graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2011 with a B.B.A. in Finance.
- Eric Weiner
Eric joined Blue Sage Capital in 2013 and is currently a Vice President. Previously, he worked as an Associate at Berkshire Partners, a middle-market private equity firm with $11 billion under management, specializing in investments primarily in consumer, retail, business services and industrial companies. Prior to Berkshire, he worked as a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company in the Dallas and Melbourne offices. Eric graduated from The University of Texas with a BBA degree in Finance from the Business Honors Program and a BA in Government, both with Highest Honors. He earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.
- Clint Woods
Clint Wood is a consultant with McKinsey & Company based out of their Houston office. Prior to re-joining McKinsey, Clint worked with Brazos Private Equity Partners, a middle market private equity fund in Dallas. Clint grew up in the Houston area and graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Business Honors and Finance and a BA in Plan II, History and Economics. Clint also holds a MA in International Relations and a MBA from the University of Chicago. Outside of the office, Clint enjoys fishing, BBQ'ing and watching University of Texas sports.
- Jeff Young
Jeff Young is a managing director at WM Capital Partners, a New York-based distressed investment firm where he focuses on acquisitions. Jeff joined WM Capital Partners from Beal Bank where he was in loan acquisitions. Prior to Beal, Jeff was in the real estate financing group at Goldman Sachs. Jeff graduated from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth with a MBA and the University of Texas with a BBA in finance.
