CCIMS has had a busy and productive year! This edition of The CCIMS Report details many of our accomplishments. Here are a few additional highlights to share with you:

  • The Marketing Fellows program continues to attract students to McCombs for the uniqueness of our experiential learning activities.
  • We conducted our “best ever” McCombs Marketing Conference in late October.
  • Our unique MBA “Labs” program has expanded to the Supply Chain discipline and we have commitment from a leading CPG company to participate in Marketing Labs in 2017.
  • We are increasing support of our strong undergraduate group by enabling case competitions and organization speakers.
  • Our Executive in Residence Rob Malcolm became the Chair of the American Marketing Association.
  • We secured a record number of classroom speakers in our core classes for both MBA and BBA students.

Marketing Conference 20152015 McCombs MBA Marketing Conference Brings Whole-Brained Insights to Students

On October 29-30, the Texas MBA program hosted its annual marketing conference at the McCombs School of Business. Sponsored by CCIMS in conjunction with the Graduate Marketing Network and the CCIMS Marketing Fellows student organizations, the event focused on uniting quantitative and qualitative skills to engage in “whole-brained marketing.”

Over the conference’s two days, attendees heard from marketing experts in the digital, CPG, financial services, technology, and academic fields. First-year students also had the opportunity to present their work on a case challenge that asked them to develop a plan for engaging millennial Walmart grocery consumers via the Pinterest platform. Reflections on Whole-Brained Marketing – Thoughts for Future Marketers

Rob MalcolmThis fall McCombs hosted our annual Marketing conference. The subject –“Whole-Brained Marketing: The Art and Science of Building Business” is very topical and currently being widely debated in both marketing academia and in the business world today. It is particularly relevant today as, due primarily to the digitalization of everything, businesses and marketers have more data coming at them than ever before. There has been a bit of a movement afoot to believe “big data,” and the analytics that underpins it, will finally bring the scientific precision and accountability to marketing that many have felt lacking.

Indeed, Marketing Analytics has rapidly become one of today’s “hot topics.” Businesses are trying to figure it out, asking many new questions. Which data do I need? How do I organize around it? How do I manage it? What systems and capabilities do I need to have? And, perhaps most importantly, how do I glean the most valuable knowledge that I can to apply to accelerating growth for my business? Academic institutions, including at McCombs, are asking many of the same questions – with the light shining both on what research is needed to advance our knowledge and also how to organize our curriculum and experiences to prepare our marketing students for a data rich world. Marketing FellowsYear in Review: CCIMS Program Updates

CCIMS has been bustling with activity this year.  We provided abundant opportunities for student/industry engagement and experiential learning.

The current class of Marketing Fellows were exposed to an array of topics and experiences. Students not only gleaned great insights from top executives but also received hands-on experience working “live” cases representing current business dilemmas in each class session. CCIMS is entering into the 5th year of the Marketing Labs program. The ultimate experiential learning opportunity, this one-year MBA program offers hands-on experience in marketing roles with participating CCIMS sponsor companies.
