Mark Rothleder is the executive director of market analysis and development for the CAISO and recently assigned lead of the CAISO’s renewable integration initiative. In spring 2009, Mark was instrumental in CAISO’s implementation of market rules and software modifications related to the CAISO’s Market Redesign and Technology Upgrade (“MRTU”). Since joining the CAISO over 12 years ago, Mark has worked extensively on implementing and integrating the approved market rules for California’s competitive energy and ancillary services markets and the rules for congestion management, real-time economic dispatch, and real-time market mitigation into the operations of the CAISO Balancing Authority Area (“BAA”). Mark also held the position of Principal Market Developer and Director of Market Operations. Mark is a registered professional electrical engineer in the state of California. Mark holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Sacramento. Mark has taken post-graduate coursework in power system engineering from Santa Clara University and earned an M.S. in Information Systems from the University of Phoenix. Prior to joining the CAISO, Mark worked for eight years in the Electric Transmission Department of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, where his responsibilities included operations engineering, transmission planning and substation design.
