Susan Williams Sloan
Susan Williams Sloan has spent ten years working in the renewable energy field. As Director of State Relations for AWEA, Susan leads a team working on state policy issues including market development, taxes, siting, transmission, distributed and community wind. The AWEA State Relations team works with AWEA member companies and nine Regional Partner organizations covering 40 states across the country, in legislative and regulatory affairs. In this role, Susan promotes state and federal policies, educates allied organizations about the wind industry and addresses issues related to social acceptance and support of wind energy.
Susan was instrumental in developing and then serving as staff liaison to AWEA’s Community Wind Working Group and was also on the advisory committee for the National Renewable Energy Lab’s Wind Powering America program.
Prior to joining AWEA, Susan worked for wind and solar interests, promoting renewable energy policies in Austin, and then to the Texas legislature. Success came in 2003, when the Austin City Council adopted significant climate goals which included increased use of wind and the establishment of Texas’ first solar rebate. In 2005, Susan was on the Wind Coalition’s legislative team when the Texas legislature expanded the Renewable Portfolio Standard and established the transmission Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ).
Susan’s public affairs background includes working for elected officials in Texas, cable and broadcast media interests at the local, state and federal levels, and companies in Texas and Hong Kong.
