The CleanTech Group, an MBA student organization at McCombs, was honored as the Best Graduate Organization at The University of Texas during the annual Swing Out Awards' Evening of the Stars ceremony on April 22. The Swing Out Awards are given by The University of Texas Leadership and Ethics Institute to student organizations that have demonstrated excellence in leadership on campus.

In just four years, the CleanTech student group has made a significant impact at McCombs. The group worked to establish a clean tech academic specialty in the full-time MBA program to help students prepare for careers in the clean tech industry. The CleanTech Concentration, representing one of the fastest growing employment areas for MBAs, prepares students for careers in renewable energy, energy efficiency and emissions abatement. CleanTech helped students locate internships, PLUS projects and full time employment with companies like Waste Management, Horizon Wind, Tessera Solar, SunPower and GE Renewables.

The organization also hosted a number of expert speakers at McCombs to educate students about the CleanTech model including Mac Irvin of Sunpower, Paul Pabor of Waste Management, Russell Gold of the Wall Street Journal and Kristan Hanelt of Tioga Energy. And the group confirmed their academic prowess by winning 2nd place in national CleanTech case competitions at the University of Michigan and the University of California, Berkeley.

Upcoming plans for CleanTech include hosting the first University of Texas campus-wide Energy Forum in the spring of 2011.

Congratulations go to the CleanTech Group for this recognition of their outstanding contributions at McCombs and The University of Texas at Austin!
