About Us

Subiendo was created in 2010 at the University of Texas at Austin to prepare tomorrow's leaders to address the needs of the next generation in areas of policy affecting education, energy and environment, and healthcare. Now in its sixth year, Subiendo has welcomed almost 400 high school seniors to undergo leadership training by not only hearing from speakers who share their leadership stories, but by also participating in communication workshops, learning networking skills, utilizing project based learning, and developing mentor relationships with student, community and business leaders.

Subiendo strongly encourages students with the opportunity to be first in their families to attend college, or students who have overcome adversity to apply to the Academy. Today, 96% of the students who participated in Subiendo went onto college to pursue a higher education.

The success of Subiendo would not be possible without the private and corporate donors who fund this program; the Subiendo Advisory Council who gives their time to program development; the speakers who share their motivational stories with the students; the hundred of volunteers and team leaders who mentor these students over the years; and the University of Texas at Austin and the McCombs School of Business who support this vision of believing in the potential of these students so they aspire to lead. Thank you.
