What We Do

Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs (TVL) is a campus-wide initiative to accelerate startups in taking their innovations to market and to transform graduate students into entrepreneurs and business leaders.

Accelerator >

The TVL Accelerator provides an opportunity for startups to take their ventures to the next level with the unique benefit of leveraging UT Austin resources and talent. TVL also provides a venue for investors to engage with research and startups from The University of Texas at Austin. The TVL Accelerator matches early-stage Austin-area startups with cross-functional student teams from across UT’s graduate schools to help solve business problems. At the conclusion of each semester, TVL hosts an Expo to showcase the startups.  For more information, check out the FAQs.

The deadline to apply to be an Accelerator company for Fall 2018 is July 15, 2018.  Apply now

The TVL Practicum connects local startup companies with talented and entrepreneurial graduate students from the MBA, law, engineering, pharmacy, and natural sciences programs. These students participate in semester-long consulting projects solving important problems alongside the company’s founders. Students work with the startups to deliver 200-300 hours of quality consulting work in exchange for academic course credit. We leverage the Austin ecosystem with unique, hands-on programs that extend across graduate programs on campus and the greater Austin startup community.

Info sessions are now being held.  Check out the TVL calendar under the About tab above for dates and times.  Applications to be a part of the Fall 2018 TVL Practicum are due by March 22, 2018.  Apply now

Investment Competition

The TVL Investment Competition (TVLIC) is designed to mimic the real-world process of raising venture capital. Graduate students present their ideas for new businesses and receive prize money and invaluable feedback from entrepreneurs and investors using Texas Venture Labs’ “Investor Ready” approach. Many TVLIC competitors go on to launch their own businesses. Competitors have included locally successful companies like uShip, Phurnace Software, Ordoro and BeatBox Beverages among others.

TVLIC gives away more than $58,000 a year in prizes during its fall and spring competitions. The Fall TVLIC was held on December 1,  2017 at the ATT Conference Center.  See the Semifinals schedule here.  The 2018 Spring TVLIC will be held on May 4, 2018. Submit your intent to compete.  Deadline is April 20, 2018.

Scholarship Competition

The TVL Scholarship Competition provides financial help to entrepreneurial students and an opportunity to earn their MBA while accelerating their startup. The Competition is a unique business pitch competition where potential MBA students pitch their business plan for a chance to win a $20,000 scholarship to the McCombs School of Business. Refer to the FAQs for more information.

The next competition will be held on March 23, 2018. The application is open and due by February 14, 2018.  Apply Today
