MIS Info Session Draws Large Crowd

October 18th marked another successful Info Session for the MIS program. Over 90 students comprised of freshman, sophomores, and transfer students joined MIS faculty, alumni, and current students to learn more about MIS.

          Info Session #1

Clint Tuttle, MIS Lecturer, and Katie Gray, MIS Senior Lecturer, hosted the event. Katie informed students on updates to MIS courses (read more about those updates here). Officers of the student group MISA gave a presentation about their organization and the opportunities it provides to students interested in MIS. David Miller of Deloitte spoke to students regarding the opportunities that an MIS degree can provide to graduates in the workforce. Also present were alumni of the program, Bekah Row of Shell and Brent Lovett of Dell who stayed after the event to answer questions from prospective students. They originally planned to talk to students about how the program influenced their careers but Bekah felt that the students should instead watch a music video co-written and starring Clint Tuttle called Excel Funcs (Check out Clint’s awesome video here!). She said that seeing former professor Rick Byars play guitar at an info session was one of the reasons that pushed her to be an MIS major (Learn more about the legendary Rick Byar’s here!).

Info Session #2     Info Session #3

We’re very thankful for the students and guests who attended our info session! Each year the number of students increases as the interest in MIS increases as well. This year the MIS major is the second largest major at McCombs with almost 400 students enrolled for the current Fall 2015 semester! We look forward to the Spring 2016 info session!
