Shefali V. Patil, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Management. She studies ways to overcome the recurring decision making and sociopolitical challenges of operating in high-risk environments, including (a) coping with public scrutiny and misperceptions, (b) adapting to monitoring technologies such as body worn cameras, and (c) reducing the opposing errors of excessively conforming to or deviating from standard decision practices. She has examined these questions working with over 15 U.S. law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Army, and emergency medical rescue/healthcare organizations. Her research appears in top academic journals, including Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Police Quarterly, and Research in Organizational Behavior, and has received wide media coverage from local and national outlets, including Salon, ScienceDaily, Psych Central, EurekAlert, National Affairs, Newswise, Newsy, International Business Times, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Austin American-Statesman, San Francisco Chronicle, Utah Public Radio, and Texas Standard. She received the BBA Faculty Honor Roll teaching award and participates in the UT Academy of Distinguished Teachers’ Society for Teaching Excellence.
She earned her B.S. in Management and Organizations, summa cum laude and Beta Gamma Sigma honors, from the Stern School of Business at New York University, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
