Reva Bhalla is a leading expert on Middle Eastern, South Asian and Latin American affairs and plays an integral role in applying a forward-looking, strategic lens to Stratfor's coverage of global events. She oversees country assessments, monitors major geopolitical trends and assures that all Stratfor content fits within established analytical framework.

Bhalla is a prominent speaker who regularly addresses organizations around the world, from large financial institutions to agricultural and real estate investment groups. She has delivered executive briefings to investors, business leaders and the U.S. defense and intelligence community. She has also been published in numerous foreign affairs journals, including The Journal of International Security Affairs.

Her focus on global issues takes her all over the world, including Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Poland. She has been featured in numerous newspapers and broadcasts, including Bloomberg, CNN, The Associate Press, NPR, Time Magazine, Al Jazeera English, FOX News, Haaretz, The New York Times, The Hindustan Times, Agencia Estado, Xinhua, Veja and Business Week.

She has a master's degree from the Security Studies Program of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and a BA in political science from the University of Texas.

President and Deputy CIO, UTIMCO

Cathy Iberg is the President and Deputy CIO at UTIMCO. Cathy began her career at UTIMCO in April of 1991 when she joined the U.T. System Office of Asset Management, the predecessor organization to UTIMCO. Cathy’s primary responsibilities include working with UTIMCO’s senior management team on tactical asset allocation and overseeing global equities, fixed income and hedge fund investments.

She is a CPA and practiced in the area of public accounting for 15 years. Ms. Iberg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

CEO, Perry Corp

Mr. Richard Perry has been CEO of Perry Corp. since 1988. Before that, Richard was in the equity arbitrage area of Goldman, Sachs & Co. He was also an adjunct associate professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he taught a course in the finance department.

Mr. Perry serves on the board of directors of Capital Business Credit LLC, Universal American Corp., Ovation LLC and Northwest Investments LLC. He is also chairman of the board of Barneys New York Inc. Richard is a member of the boards of trustees of Facing History and Ourselves, The Israel Project and the University of Pennsylvania. He is also on the Advisory Council of the Hamilton Project. Mr. Perry earned an MBA at New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1980, and a BS at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1977.

Mr. Tim Barrett is Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO for Texas Tech University System (TTUS). He is responsible for day-to-day management of the Endowment Assets and responsible for Investment Strategy and Implementation of the nearly one billion dollar endowment. Mr. Barrett began his relationship with TTUS in April of 2013. Prior to TTUS, he served as Director of Pension Investments Worldwide at Eastman Kodak, overseeing more than $16 Billion in aggregate through approximately 77 plans globally. Mr. Barrett began his relationship with Kodak in November of 2010. He began his career with San Bernardino County Employees’ Retirement Association (SBCERA) where he worked his way up the organization to become the Executive Director & CIO. Mr. Barrett began his career in 1996 with SBCERA and left in October of 2010. He has approximately 15 years’ experience as a CIO and has restructured plans around the world within the three pillars of institutional investors- pension, corporate and endowment. He is a published co-author and winner of the Edward D. Baker III Award by the Investment Management Consultants Association for an article entitled, “Dynamic Beta –getting paid to manage risk”. Mr. Barrett is also a member of the inaugural aiCIO Power 100 and has been given many awards for managing best of breed plans.  

 

BaumhoverBrian Baumhover

Mr. Baumhover manages TRS’ Other Real Assets portfolio. He assists the managing director in managing, monitoring, and performing due diligence underwriting and co-investment analysis in Real Return Portfolios. He supports communication of all aspects of the Private Markets Portfolio (strategy, performance, new opportunities, principle investments) with TRS senior management and Board of Trustees. Mr. Baumhover was a member of the ROTC program at Iowa State, and became an officer in the United States Navy. He flew F/A-18C’s for 11 years on multiple carrier-based deployments. He was selected to attend TOPGUN. Upon completion, as an east coast Weapons and Tactics Instructor, and led pre-deployment workup training for multiple carrier airwings. He returned to graduate school for a career in Real Assets Finance. He was integral in developing and building out TRS’ $3.7B Other Real Assets program. Mr. Baumhover received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University and his MBA from McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.

 

BeardGreg Beard

Mr. Beard joined Apollo in 2010 from Riverstone Holdings, where he was a managing director and lead deal partner in many of the firm’s top commodities-related investments. Before joining Riverstone in 2000, Mr. Beard was an associate with Asen and Company, a New York, NY-based investment firm, and prior to that he worked with a Nashville, TN-based investment firm. He began his career as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs, where he played an active role in the firm's energy-sector principal investment activities. Mr. Beard has served as a director on eighteen corporate boards, and he currently serves on the board of Virginia Uranium, Inc and Athlon Energy, LP. Mr. Beard received his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana.

Susan Chen

Susan Chen joined the University of Texas Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) in 2008. She's the Senior Director of Public Markets Investments, overseeing domestic, developed international, and emerging market equity investments. Susan and her team are responsible for managing a $6 billion public equity portfolio for the various funds managed by UTIMCO. Before joining UTIMCO, Susan worked at an alternative investment firm as a portfolio manager and analyst for distressed debt, event-driven equity, private debt, and special asset investments. Susan also worked in the corporate planning department of The Washington Post Company, on the risk arbitrage research team at Bear Stearns & Co., and as an investment banking analyst at Merrill Lynch & Co. Susan received an MBA and J.D., from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School, respectively, and an A.B. in economics, and Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard College.

Helen Currie is Senior Economist with ConocoPhillips Corporation where she currently oversees the company’s long range plan development in addition to advising on investment analyses, political risk, scenario planning and other strategic initiatives. Her previous roles at ConocoPhillips include Upstream Business Analysis, Commercial Risk Management for Crude, Refined Products, NGL, Natural Gas and Power Marketing, as well as leading a Commercial Risk Systems project. From 2007-2010, Dr. Currie was with BG Group, leading the Americas Market Fundamentals research team which supported trading, business development and strategic planning. Prior to joining Conoco in 2001, Dr. Currie was on faculty at Elon University and LaGrange College for M.B.A. and undergraduate finance and economics programs. Her academic research focused on mortgage backed securities valuation and financial institutions. She previously worked with the State of Washington’s Department of Ecology conducting Economic Impact Studies for various air, water and hazardous waste regulations. A financial economist by training, she holds a Ph.D. in finance from Mississippi State University, a M.A. in economics from the University of Washington, and a B.A. in economics from Millsaps College.

R. Scott Dennis

Mr. Dennis is the Chief Executive Officer of Invesco Real Estate. He is responsible for the day-to-day strategy execution and management of the global real estate unit. He chairs the Global Real Estate Executive Committee and is a member of the firm’s investment committees. Mr. Dennis has been with Invesco for 21 years. Before he managed the global real estate group, he was co-head of IRE’s North American group, and head of the U.S. acquisitions team. Over his career, Mr. Dennis has been involved in more than $20 billion of real estate investments, covering a broad range of property types and investment structures. Before joining Invesco, Mr. Dennis worked at Bankers Trust Company, where he was responsible for structuring equity and debt investments on behalf of Bankers Trust and other institutional clients. Mr. Dennis also worked with Trammell Crow Company, where he was responsible for investments on behalf of their commingled funds. Mr. Dennis is actively involved in the Urban Land Institute and holds a BBA in Finance and Real Estate from The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. Dennis has 32 years of real estate investment experience.

 

DolezalekStephan Dolezalek

Stephan Dolezalek has spent more than 25 years in Silicon Valley working exclusively with technology-driven companies. Stephan crafted VantagePoint’s CleanTech platform in 2002 and has led the CleanTech Group since its inception. It is now one of the preeminent CleanTech practices in the world. He has been instrumental in building VantagePoint’s Corporate Strategic Partner program and has served on the boards of numerous portfolio companies. Before joining VantagePoint, he was a senior partner with Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, where he led the Palo Alto office and served as Head of the Business and Technology Group and Chairman of the Life Sciences Group. Stephan is a frequent speaker on the topic of our new energy economy and is an active member of the NVCA CleanTech Advisory Council and the American Council on Renewable Energy. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia (BCP) School of Architecture and the University of Virginia School of Law (JD).

Rich Gammill

Rich Gammill is a Senior Managing Director with Black River Asset Management. He joined Black River in 2007, and co-manages the firm’s Food Fund, a $500 million private equity fund targeting investments in protein production, value added processing and supply chain management in the emerging markets. The Food Fund has a global capability with an Asian focus with investment professionals in the US, China, Singapore, and India. Black River, a subsidiary of Cargill Inc, is a global asset management company that provides sophisticated institutional investors with alternative investment opportunities. The firm currently manages over $6 billion in assets across a diversified platform of absolute return trading and private equity strategies. Mr. Gammill received a Master of Business Administration in Finance from UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he was a Venture Fellow and Carter Scholar, and also holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Harvey Mudd College.

Earle has spent more than 17 years in investment banking and private equity with a primary focus in Core Capital Assets. Formerly a Managing Director in Citigroup's Core Capital Assets investment business, he was the European Regional Head for the group. Earle's roles included portfolio management and optimization, strategy and new business development, transaction sourcing and execution and management of a team of investment professionals. Earle has been involved in both debt and equity capital market transactions in excess of $6 billion. He received a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Business Information Systems from The University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University. He is a Canadian Chartered Accountant.

Michael Lapides, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in August 2005 and leads the Electric Utilities research team in New York. Prior to joining the firm, Michael worked at Hibernia Southcoast Capital (now part of CapitalOne Financial) as the Vice President and Senior Analyst covering electric utilities. Previously, he worked as a management and economic consultant, advising utilities, financiers, regulators and other parties for the PA Consulting Group and its predecessor company, PHB Hagler Bailly. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Lead Analyst at Entergy Corporation, a Fortune 500 utility holding company, and worked at the Department of Justice/Antitrust Division and on Capitol Hill. Michael received his BA and MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Bernie McNamara, Executive Director, is the product manager at J.P. Morgan Asset Management for Global Real Assets Omni, a program for working with investors and their consultants to implement custom real asset portfolio solutions. Bernie has over 15 years of experience in the investment services industry, with a focus on product development and client management. He co-founded Upromise Investments, Inc., where he also served as Senior Vice President of Business Development, Marketing and Client Management. Bernie was instrumental in growing the firm from true start-up to the market leader in state-sponsored 529 college savings plan management, with over $20 billion in assets under administration for 18 plans. Prior to Upromise Investments, Bernie helped develop tax-advantaged business lines at Fidelity Investments and Merrill Lynch. He began his career in financial market research at Greenwich Associates. He holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses, and has a B.A. from Harvard University and MBA from Harvard Business School.

Tom Tull, CFA, is the Chief Investment Officer at the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). He was a founding partner of Gulfstream Global Investors, Ltd., an SEC-registered investment adviser specializing in international equity management. For 11 years Mr. Tull provided his expertise to ERS as a member of the Investment Advisory Committee to its Board of Trustees. Before that, he focused on developing ERS’ hedge fund program and further expanding its investment program. His investment career began in 1971. Mr. Tull served for seven years as Director of Pension Investments of The Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company before joining the LTV Corporation in 1983 where he was Director of Employee Benefit Fund Investments. He also served as President of Western Reserve Capital Management, Inc., the pension asset management subsidiary of LTV. He was responsible for the investment of a $1.2 billion retirement trust. He also managed a $90 million international equity portfolio and outside investment manager relationships. He received a B.S. in Finance from Ohio State University and an M.B.A. from Xavier University, and is a CFA® charterholder. He also is a member of a variety of financial organizations. Mr. Tull is a U.S. Army veteran.

  • Attend the full session in order to receive credit.
  • Fill out and turn in the completed questionnaire at the end of each session in order to receive credit for that session.
You will receive your certificate of credit when you turn in your completed questionnaire, immediately after each session.
