What: Professor Ed Maydew will present Understanding Why Firms Hold So Much Cash: A Tax Risk Explanation.

Bio: Edward Maydew's teaching and research interests include tax strategy, financial accounting, corporate taxation, economic effects of taxation and the role of accounting information in valuation.

Dr. Maydew is the David E. Hoffman Distinguished Professor of Accounting. He also serves as director of research for the UNC Tax Center.

He is coauthor of Taxes and Business Strategy: A Planning Approach with Nobel Prize winning economist Myron Scholes and accounting professors Mark Wolfson, Merle Erickson and Terry Shevlin. He has published in the top academic journals in his field, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Finance, Journal of Public Economics, National Tax Journal and Journal of the American Taxation Association.

He received a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and a BBA from Iowa State University
