Meet Jim Deitrick
Jim Deitrick joined The University of Texas at Austin in 1977 with a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, and he adopted a new shade of burnt orange with great passion – for accounting students and all our athletic programs!
Over the past 37 years, Jim has received 21 teaching awards, including the McCombs Excellence in Education Award and the Texas Society of CPAs Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.
Professor Deitrick was the director of our MPA program when Texas received its first #1 ranking from Public Accounting Report. He gave tirelessly of his time and leadership to the Texas Society of CPAs.
McCombs accounting programs are among the best in the nation. Competition among top accounting programs is tougher than ever, so we need your help to retain our reputation for excellence.
James W. Deitrick Endowed Scholarship for International Accounting Study
At the Red McCombs School of Business, we measure our success in many ways, and one very important measure is the quality of our faculty. To honor the retirement of Professor Jim Deitrick, we are establishing the Jim Deitrick Endowed Scholarship for International Accounting Study.
This award will be given to an outstanding accounting student for study abroad. The Deitrick scholar will be a student with an outstanding academic record who exhibits financial need and passion for The University of Texas and for whom this would be the student’s first meaningful international experience.
We are establishing a permanent endowment of $100,000 that will spin off an award of approximately $5,000 each year. A scholarship of this amount will be meaningful in supporting opportunities for global education.
We invite all those alumni whose knowledge and enjoyment of accounting got a huge boost from Jim Deitrick to pay it forward to future students with a meaningful donation to this scholarship endowment! And if you are a young alumnus who enjoyed an MPA study abroad experience, we particularly encourage you to pay it forward.
Contributions to these funds will be invested in perpetuity and the endowment income will be used specifically for scholarships for McCombs accounting students.
