McCombs Adventure Program (MAP) is an optional pre-orientation adventure for incoming Texas MBA students. MAP provides an amazing opportunity for new 1st year MBA students to connect with future classmates and spend time with seasoned Texas MBA veterans leading the trips. This year, there are two international MAP options: 1) constructing an agricultural school and training facility in Nicaragua or 2) exploring Vietnam through an adventure itinerary.

Tanzania MAP Trip
- Date: July 13 - 23, 2016
- Pricing: $500 program fee and $700 Safari fee are due June 1st. $2,000 estimated airfare cost for international airfare to and from Kilimanjaro, Tanzania will be purchased by students on their own. Students are also expected to raise a minimum of $1,200, with a goal of exceeding that minimum, that will go directly to project materials, due by July 13th.
The 2016 MAP Tanzania program is our second trip organized with Building Bridges Worldwide and MBA alums Dan Sarles and Ted Egner. Participating students will travel to the rural village of Simanjiro to work with Building Bridges and their local partners to construct an additional building in a school complex that Building Bridges helped build in 2014. After signing up for the program, students will crowd-source fund-raise $1,200 or more for the project’s labor and building materials. In July, participants will fly to the Kilimanjaro airport and meet trip leaders there. The program will begin with a short safari to Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire National Park to view famed African wildlife and build the team bonds necessary for the work in the village. Participants will be transported to the village, enjoy a welcome ceremony, and receive instructions from the local construction site managers on the project. Construction will take place Monday through Thursday and, after a job well done, students will celebrate together Thursday night before departing on Friday to be back in the US on Saturday. Accommodations at the village will be very basic. The village will not have electricity and running water -- bottled water will be provided -- and students should prepare to spend 4 nights in sleeping bags on floor mats or on basic cots. Hot meals will be provided but will be very simple dishes consisting of mainly rice and beans. Students should also be able to participate in strenuous activities such as digging ditches, shoveling dirt, and mixing cement by hand.
