LGBTQA MBAs & Active Allies
eQual MBAs, a student organization at McCombs, is a social and career networking group for MBAs who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or a friend or supporter of the LGBTQA community. The Texas MBA community works to promote awareness of the LGBTQA community among current and prospective students and alumni by:
- Working with prospective students to answer questions about LGBTQA life at McCombs and in Austin.
- Organizing social events each semester, including events which are open to the MBA community at large.
- Promoting diversity in career networking within the MBA and greater business community.
Reaching Out (LGBTQA MBA Conference)
Members of eQual MBAs regularly participate in the annual Reaching Out MBA Conference. Reaching Out MBA, Inc. is a non-profit organization that promotes the education, visibility and networking capabilities of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender business leaders in the United States and around the globe. The organization targets graduate business students and a broad range of corporations as it seeks to increase the awareness of LGBTQA issues in an increasingly diverse workplace, as well as in public life.
McCombs is proud to be one of the first schools to offer the Reaching Out LGBTQA MBA Fellowship. These awards are for LGBTQA students and their active allies enrolling in business school. Please see our Scholarships webpage for more information on the ROMBA Scholarship.
Point Foundation is one of the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQA) students of merit. The organization provides financial support through multi-year scholarships, leadership training, mentoring and hope to LGBTQA students who are marginalized because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. Austin's LGBTQA Scene
Austin is recognized for its progressive culture and the city is home to a strong LGBTQA community. On any given night the streets of the Warehouse District are filled with an active nightlife scene around the many bars and restaurants. Prominent events throughout the year provide an additional source of entertainment and livelihood.
The Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
The Austin Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce provides extensive information on LGBTQA-friendly businesses and events in the Austin area. Explore their online directory to find places to eat, stores to shop and tips on where to find Austin's hottest happenings and sign up for their e-newsletter to stay in the loop. Gay Pride Parade
Austin's LGBTQA community unites each year on the streets of Downtown Austin to celebrate PRIDE, a family-friendly parade and festival that continues to grow in popularity. Events around the parade have included a Rainbow Run, live entertainment and a variety of food and drink.
Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF)
Each year thousands of Central Texans attend the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival. The festival was founded in 1987 and has since grown into a multimedia event with over 150 films depicting myriad issues across cultures, race, immigration status, class, gender identity and expression, age, and region. Its primary goals are to create positive and visible images relevant to lives of LGBTQA-identified people; to educate the community about LGBTQI issues; and to show and promote the best in LGBTQA films. University of Texas at Austin LGBTQA Resources
The University of Texas at Austin fosters an inclusive, enlightened community that operates on acceptance and supports diversity of thought. UT students are involved in LGBTQA and Ally events and organizations around campus throughout the year, while larger university centers support the university's core value of individual opportunity and initiatives toward diversity and community.
Gender and Sexuality Center
The Gender and Sexuality Center provides safe spaces for all members of the UT Austin community to explore, organize, and promote learning around issues of gender and sexuality. The center also facilitates a greater responsiveness to the needs of women and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and ally (LGBTQA) communities through education, outreach and advocacy.
