The traditional approach to the Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) degree is open to students with a bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline.
Length of the Program
- Students with an undergraduate degree in accounting typically qualify for course waivers and complete a 31-hour program (in fall and spring or fall, spring, and summer).
- Students with an undergraduate degree in an area outside of accounting or business typically complete a 43-hour program (in summer*, fall, spring, and summer).
*Admitted applicants who do not qualify for the ACC 381–Financial Accounting waiver (based on two semesters of Financial Accounting, including one semester of Intermediate Accounting, with grades of B or better) will be required to begin the MPA program in mid-July.

*U.S. applicants with strong credentials (GPA of 3.5 or better and a GMAT score of 600 or better) are encouraged to submit their applications by the early deadline if they wish to receive an earlier decision notification. Please note that the admissions committee may decide to admit, deny or place an applicant on a waitlist, depending on the strength of the entire application and applicant pool.

Review the required application materials and prepare well before you apply.
Submit a completed online (ApplyTexas) application and pay the application fee. Applications are accepted for the fall semester only. The online application opens in the first week of September each year.
Receive an email confirmation from UT’s Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) approximately 24 hours after submitting your online application. The email will contain instructions for checking the status of your application materials.
Upload your supplemental application materials. All application materials, including official test scores, must be received by the final deadline. Applications that are completed after the deadline are considered on a space-available basis only.
Have your official GMAT and TOEFL (or IELTS) scores sent directly to The University of Texas at Austin. Review Characteristics of a Strong Application for additional details and UT’s institution codes.
Wait for the admissions decision. Your completed application will be sent to the MPA Program Office for review, and the admissions committee's decision will be posted on the status check site. U.S. applications are reviewed on a rolling basis in the order of file completion, beginning with those completed by the early deadline and ending with those completed by the final deadline. International applications are reviewed after the application deadline rather than on a rolling basis.
Commit to the MPA program. If you are admitted, the MPA program will send you details on the next steps, including how to formally accept your offer of admission and pay your enrollment deposit.
