Financing Your Degree

All MSF applicants are automatically considered for merit-based financial assistance; no separate application is necessary.

Student Loans: Applicants can apply for most loans through the university’s Office of Student Financial Services. To apply for federal and state assistance, students will need the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You will need to authorize The University of Texas at Austin to receive your FAFSA information by entering the following Title IV School Code: 003658.

We strongly recommend that you begin applying for financial aid as early as possible. You can check the status of your financial aid application at the Office of Student Financial Services webpage or through your status check page.

If you need assistance with your financial aid application, please contact our Accounts Manager.

Teaching Assistants and Work-Study: MSF students are not typically eligible for university employment as teaching or research assistants. Due to the rigorous nature of the coursework, outside employment is not generally recommended.

International Students

Financial aid for international students, including loans and merit-based assistance, is very limited. International students who apply should be prepared to finance the entire period of proposed study from personal funds. Please note that in addition to program tuition and fees, international students are responsible for health insurance fees and the ISSS student support fees.

All international applicants who plan to enroll at The University of Texas at Austin in F-1 or J-1 status must submit the Certification of Financial Responsibility Form even if they are currently living in the United States. Questions regarding the completion of the form should be directed to: hotline@austin.utexas.edu (please note that the Certification of Financial Responsibility form is used for immigration document processing, not for admissions purposes--therefore, the form is not required for the completion of an admissions application).
