MSF Advisory Council members serve as advocates of the MSF Program, offer guidance to the curriculum committee, and assist in strengthening the overall student experience. Members have the opportunity to participate in MSF practicum projects, networking events and student treks.
The Advisory Council meets biannually in Austin, Texas.

James D. Recer

Jim Recer is Managing Director, Specialty & Regional Banking at Texas Capital Bank, focusing on the Dallas region in addition to Private Wealth and Energy and the bank’s businesses in Syndicated Finance, Lender Finance, Leasing and Financial Institutions.
A veteran of Texas banking, Recer joined Texas Capital Bank from BBVA Compass, where he spent 13 years, most recently leading U.S. coverage for the Corporate & Investment Banking group. As Senior Managing Director and Senior Executive Vice President, Recer led a team that provided banking and investment services to U.S. clients with revenues of more than $3 billion.
While at BBVA Compass, Recer also served as Director of Asset Recovery Management & Solutions as a direct report to the CEO and Chief Risk Officer, transforming the bank’s commercial loan workout function to a separate line of business to meet the demands of the credit crisis. He also was South Texas Region Executive and served as Houston Market President, leading the Corporate Banking group in the Houston area.
Earlier in his career, Recer served as an executive for Bank of America’s Financial Strategies Group, which provided traditional banking and investment banking services to California companies with revenues in excess of $100 million.
Recer has served as an Executive Board Member of the Boy Scouts of America, Sam Houston Area Council, and Chairman of the Friends of Scouting Campaign. He has also been active with the Kingsland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas, where he served on several committees and was an Adult Bible Fellowship Leader.
Recer currently serves as Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Master of Science in Finance Program in the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.

Michael B. Cox is Vice Chairman of the Seabury Advisory Group, Seabury’s holding company for all of its advisory practices and is Global Head of Seabury’s Corporate Advisory practice. Mr. Cox joined the Seabury as a partner Seabury’s principal advisory practice in April 1998. He has over 30 years of corporate and advisory experience covering corporate recovery, cash management, business planning and crisis management. At Seabury, Mr. Cox has advised numerous airline clients on a variety of projects, including airline treasury, corporate finance, and airline restructuring. In addition, Mr. Cox has been qualified as an industry expert in various commercial disputes involving aircraft leasing matters, airline valuations and business plans for the passenger and cargo sector.
Mr. Cox received his M.B.A. in Finance and Accounting from the University of Texas, Austin and his B.B.A in Business Management from Texas A&M University where he graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Cox is a FINRA registered representative with the Series 7, 79 and 63 designations.
