Texas Venture Lab Investment Competition Now Accepting Applications

2017 Spring Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition Champion, NovoTheliumAUSTIN, Texas – Registration for the 2017 Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC) is now open to all graduate students at The University of Texas at Austin. To apply, students must submit all application materials by midnight on November 17. 

TVLIC, a business plan competition designed to mimic the real-world process of raising venture capital, allows students to showcase their investor ready ideas. Graduate students pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges consisting of entrepreneurs and investors who then provide invaluable feedback.
 
TVLIC will be held on Friday, Dec. 1 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the UT Austin campus. The top teams of the competition will receive more than $25,000 in cash and prizes. In addition to cash, the first-place team will be considered for a spot in the TVL Accelerator upon graduation, consulting time with the directors of Texas Venture Labs (TVL), and an opportunity to join TVL in New York City to close the Nasdaq Stock Market.
 
“TVLIC is a great opportunity for graduate students to move their business ideas off the shelf and receive actionable feedback from entrepreneurs and investors who have launched companies,” said Harlan Beverly, assistant director of Texas Venture Labs. “The competition allows students to go head-to-head with other entrepreneurs and leverage their knowledge gained to enter the market with a running start.”
 
TVLIC acts as a great benefit for students to get exposure and advice from entrepreneurs who have gone down the same path. TVLIC has helped launch companies such as uShip, Ordoro, Dish Society, Bigfoot Networks, and many others. The most recent example is BeatBox Beverages, founded by Texas MBA students whom secured a $1 million investment from entrepreneur Mark Cuban during an episode of ABC’s “Shark Tank.”

“I’ve seen students successfully expand their networks that allow them to launch their business immediately after competing and others who use what they have learned to develop better, fundable businesses,” said Beverly.
