Computer Services maintains approximately 15 Terabytes of network storage space in support of the needs of the college. Highly available, secure and reliable, this storage capacity is available to students, faculty and staff in a variety of ways.
All students, faculty and staff receive personal network storage space, typically referred to has "Home Drives" or "H: Drives". This space is available on-campus directly and through the campus VPN from off-campus. Home Drives are intended as a backup or temporary storage location for your personal files. Files cannot be shared or accessed by others when stored in your Home Drive. Computer Services maintains backups of Home Drives for disaster recovery purposes only and cannot retrieve individual files or folders. Home Drive quotas are:
Faculty: 5 GB
Staff: 2 GB
The University provides additional storage space, with additional sharing capabilities, through the ITS-run UT Box service. See http://www.utexas.edu/its/cloudstorage/ for more information.
Departmental File Shares
McCombs Departments which need to provide shared file storage space for their departments can receive 50GB of network storage from Computer Services. Departmental file shares expand upon the utility of Home Drives by providing additional shared storage for files that need to be accessed by members of your department. These file shares are backed up nightly and can be managed directly by the department to which they are assigned. This eliminates the need for departments to purchase their own file servers.

In addition to Department File Shares, Computer Services is now able to provide a new type of online file storage system called SharePoint Services. SharePoint is a new product from Microsoft which allows for easy, web-based, access to files in addition to a number of other features.
