Dr. Carlos M. Carvalho is Associate Professor of Statistics and the CBA Foundation Centennial Fellow in the Department of Information, Risk and Operations Management at the McCombs School of Business. His research focuses on Bayesian statistics in complex, high-dimensional problems with applications ranging from finance to genetics. Some of his current projects include work on large-scale factor models, graphical models, Bayesian model selection, particle filtering and stochastic volatility models.

Before moving to Texas Dr. Carvalho was part of the faculty at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he was named an IBM Corporation Scholar in 2008. In 2009, he joined the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin, and was awarded The Donald D. Harrington Fellowship.

Dr. Carvalho is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and before coming to the U.S. he received his Bachelor degree in Economics from IBMEC Business School (Rio de Janeiro) followed by a Masters degree in Statistics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
