Dr. Kate Mackie is an award-winning professor in the Department of Marketing at the Red McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches MBA, MSTC, and Executive Education classes in marketing, marketing strategy, marketing of technological innovations, buyer behavior, process improvement facilitation, international business operations, and customer insight. She also teaches seminars on Marketing Technological Innovation for McCombs Executive Education and Global Commercialization Group. In the last five years she has presented seminars in Malaysia, India, Chile, Norway, and Mexico. She has also taught in the McCombs School of Business MBA program in Mexico City.

Kate has fifteen years of experience in international and domestic marketing. Her marketing career began as a systems support representative with National Semiconductor Corporation’s Systems Division in 1975 and includes eleven years of domestic and international consumer products marketing with The Pillsbury Company. She joined the Green Giant division of The Pillsbury Company in 1978 and, from 1984 to 1989, was Director of Marketing and New Business Development at Pillsbury’s subsidiary in Caracas, Venezuela. During that time, her primary objectives were to initiate local agricultural, processing, and marketing operations for the Green Giant canned vegetable business and to launch the products into the Venezuelan market. Activities included strategic and tactical planning, financial planning and analysis, contract negotiation, government relations, marketing management, market research, advertising agency management, and investigation of new business development opportunities, including acquisitions and new product development.

Kate's education includes an MBA in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird, 1974) and a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin (1995).
