Paul Bommer

Dr. Paul Bommer joined the University of Texas at Austin Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering in 2004 to teach the undergraduate production course and now teaches numerous applied courses in the department. Paul received his PhD in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas in 1979 and joined Bommer Engineering soon thereafter. He has extensive experience in reservoir evaluation and drilling and production practice.

He served on the National Academy of Engineering committee that investigated the causes of the Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. He has received numerous teaching awards including the University of Texas System Board of Regents Teaching Award in 2014.

Paul has published articles in several fields including solution mining, beam pump design, and well log analysis. He is the co-author of one book and the editor of several other. He holds one patent. He has served as an instructor in petroleum related courses at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston at Victoria, and at Bee County Community College. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Association of Drilling Engineers.
