Regina Hughes is a distinguished senior lecturer in the department of Finance at the McCombs School of Business, University of Texas at Austin. She is also the director of the Business Foundations Program (BFP), a certificate program for non-business majors where more than 6000 UT students participate. She works with colleges and departments across campus working to create programs where students can learn core business skills in environments that complement their own majors and interests. She designed and directs the Texas Business Foundations Summer Institute (TBFSI), an intensive eight-week program meant to attract STEM students and others. In 2014 the Summer Institute expanded and an additional program was created for those interested in the ‘business of healthcare’. Since coming to UT in 1993, Ms. Hughes has taught a variety of finance and economics classes over the years, currently teaching in the Signature Series for freshman and the capstone finance class for undergraduate seniors. She is an instructor in the Master of Science in Technology Commercialization (MSTC) teaching New Venture Finance, and works with students in the UT Monterrey program “Globalization and Technology Commercialization”. She continues to be a valued member of the UT faculty winning teaching awards and receiving high marks in teaching evaluations.

Outside the classroom, Ms. Hughes has consulted with private companies in the areas of small business and insurance law. Prior to UT, Ms. Hughes was on the faculty of the University of North Texas and Austin Community College. She has worked in various financial fields, held insurance licenses and served on professional review boards. She has served as a consultant to the US Department of Labor, US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Texas Department of Insurance and other private contractors. Her previous experience includes providing consulting services to non-standard insurance providers and adjusters across the State of Texas.
