Shefali V. Patil, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Management at the McCombs School of Business, The University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the interface between organizational leaders and their sociopolitical environment, examining ways in which leaders can better manage challenges such as public scrutiny, pressures to implement monitoring technologies, and calls for accountability. She has worked with over 15 U.S. law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Army, emergency medical rescue operations, and hospitals and physician organizations. Her research appears in top academic journals, including Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Behavioral Decision Making, Organization Science, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Police Quarterly, and Research in Organizational Behavior, and has received wide media coverage from local and national outlets. She has written editorials for The Hill, Dallas Morning News, and The Conversation and conducted broadcast interviews for Fox 7, CBS Austin, KXAN, KLBJ, Texas State Network/KRLD, Utah Public Radio, Texas Standard/KUT, Spectrum News, and Newsy.

In addition to her research, she is an award-winning educator. She received the Trammell/CBA Foundation Teaching Award for Assistant Professors in Spring 2020 and the Texas McCombs BBA Faculty Honor Roll teaching awards in the past three consecutive years, 2018, 2019, and 2020. She was also selected to participate in the UT Academy of Distinguished Teachers’ Society for Teaching Excellence.

She earned her B.S. in Management & Organizations, summa cum laude and Beta Gamma Sigma honors, from the Stern School of Business at New York University, and her Ph.D. in Managerial Science & Applied Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
