NOTE: Although this experience is based on oil and gas industry material, many of the learnings, concepts, and tools are applicable to other extractive industries, as well. As wind and solar farms and battery storage capacities are expected to expand, there is a realization of challenges associated with minerals value chains, from gaining access to mining rights to the production, transportation, and refining of ores and the manufacturing of end products. These activities are akin to those along the oil and gas value chains. Skills associated with managing risks in cyclical industries, interacting with resource owners and partners, and designing and developing multi-year capital-intensive projects are as valuable to companies operating along the minerals value chains as they are to companies in the oil and gas industry.
