Designing Winning Strategies for Firms Competing in Dynamic Environments

Few terms are used more frequently in business than "strategy", but in too many companies it is little more than a slogan that serves no real purpose.

Overview

This one-week executive training program focuses on the design of effective strategies for firms competing in contexts marked by fast-paced change. It is geared toward middle to higher level managers who are involved in analyzing complex strategic situations and setting strategic directions for their firms. The program equips participants with necessary tools and techniques that will help them structure and enrich their understanding of the competitive landscape in which they operate, the key drivers of strategic success in that landscape, and the unique strengths and capabilities of their firms that can sustain competitive advantage.

It also covers topics and frameworks that prepare participants to address strategic challenges typical of contemporary innovation-driven, dynamic environments, such as disruptive innovations, platform-based competition, and complex business ecosystems. With these analyses as building blocks, the program then guides participants to develop a roadmap to help design strategies for their firms to successfully navigate turbulent environments. The program is structured in a way that allows for rich interactions and the sharing of experiences among participants, in complement to the interactive sessions, in-depth case discussions, and simulations.

Topics covered in this program include:

  • Fundamentals of strategic analysis and strategy formulation
  • Structure and dynamics of firm environments
  • Competitive analysis
  • Analysis of firm-specific strengths and capabilities
  • Innovation as source of growth and organizational renewal
  • Platform-based competition and complex business ecosystems
