Real and Reimagined Spaces is a new art installation located in the Dean’s Office at the McCombs School of Business. In collaboration with the Visual Arts Center at The University of Texas at Austin, the exhibit celebrates the visionary work of three artists, Brooke Burnside, Brooke Frank, and André Fuqua, and their explorations of hope, sensuality, and beauty in the natural world and the urban environment. Each artist is affiliated with UT Austin.
Brooke Burnside, who holds a MA in Architecture from UT, works across media and reflects on memory, geography, and issues of Black womanhood. Brooke Frank received an MFA in Studio Art also at UT and explores the pictorial sensuality of mark making. Finally, André Fuqua who is a PhD student in Civil Engineering explores identity and historical narratives through his artistic practice, which spans photography, sculpture, and installation.
“We don’t realize how much we are emotionally affected by our spaces and where we work,” says Donato Loia, UT Visual Arts Center 2020-2021 Curatorial Fellow. “While these pieces are a celebration of artistry and Black History Month, they are also meant to intentionally make us feel more at home.”
The installation will be on display through Spring 2021.
